Chrysalis Vineyards is a 70 acre estate winery located in rural Loudoun County, Virginia and the world’s preeminent and largest producer of Norton, Virginia’s native grape. Situated among 412 acres and now in its 26th year, it is one of several agriculture based endeavors that make up The Ag District along with cattle and dairy farming, and cheese production. We grow 40 acres of Norton along with 30 acres of vinifera comprised of Viognier, Albariño, Petit Manseng, Petit Verdot, Tannat, Nebbiolo, Tinta Cão, Fer Servadou, and Graciano.
We are looking for an Associate or Assistant Winemaker to work alongside our current winemaker in all aspects of the vineyard and cellar. They will be trained on an assortment of techniques and styles utilized to produce and grow premium Virginia wine. This position will work closely with the winemaker and also the management team to further the goals of the Ag District.
Duties for this position include:
Hands-on production of wine from estate and sourced fruit
Management of vineyard with emphasis on premium care of the vineyard health and fruit quality
Maintaining relationships with and buying winemaking/bottling inputs from suppliers
Laboratory analysis
Knowledge and light maintenance of crush pad, cellar equipment, and its operation
Managing the sale and support of an extensive list of industry customers for fruit
Managing the winemaking database and generating accurate quarterly TTB reports
Inventory management
Maintaining the cellar, crush pad, and surrounding areas in a clean and presentable condition
Operating and maintaining a bottling line
Working with custom crush clients to craft and produce their wines
Maintain strict quality standards throughout the winemaking process, conducting regular analysis and sensory evaluations
Participate in tastings and blending projects
Qualifications:
Degree in Enology, Viticulture, or a related field (preferred but not required with strong experience).
2 years experience as Winemaker if applying as an Associate Winemaker or 2 years production experience if applying as Assistant Winemaker

Physically able to perform hands-on production duties including the ability to lift/carry 50 lbs

Valid US Driver's License required
