Job Description:

Merkin Vineyards is a small Arizona Vineyard and Winery. We work with a very diverse range of grapes grown at high elevation, both red and white. We are committed to improving quality every year with an intense focus on viticultural practices and wine quality.


We are looking for a passionate and motivated individual to join us and work in a variety of roles. Previous experience is required – a desire to work hard, pay close attention to details and learn fast is vital. This role involves a wide variety of responsibilities including but not limited to:


Cellar
•  Maintain organization, cleanliness, and sanitation practices in cellar
•  Performing repairs, modifications, and preventive maintenance on equipment and systems
•  Stacking and placing barrels in a spatially practical and fashionable manner
•  Operating various pumps and winemaking equipment
•  Transferring various types of product from various types of vessels
•  Assist with blending and tasting trials
•  Occasional mead fermentation maintenance during the off season
•  Carrying out filtration: lenticular and plate + frame
•  Monitoring sulfites and topping barrels
•  Cleaning and steaming barrels
•  Cleaning and filling kegs
•  Bottling: assisting with and/or running the line
•  Transporting empty/full glass, tanks, and miscellaneous items around with a 30ft truck

Harvest/Crush
•  Setting up and proper operation of harvest equipment
•  Destemming and pressing fruit
•  Fermentation management (punch down, pump overs, etc.)
•  Transfer tanks and barreling down
•  Clean all harvest equipment daily

Required Qualifications:
•  Self motivated and directed
•  Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills
•  VIP - Interpersonal/team building skills
•  Must have strong execution and project management skills
•  Ability to understand and set priorities, workflow, and deadlines
•  Proven ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines
•  Skilled forklift operator
•  Ability to forklift bins of grapes, barrels/racks, pallets of wine
•  Must have clean valid drivers license
•  Must have reliable transportation
•  Ability to lift, pull, carry up to 50 lbs. on a repetitive basis
•  Ability to work occasional overtime, night and weekend work during harvest, and bottling as
to meet production needs
•  Must have 3+ years applicable experience

Preferred Qualifications:
•  Ability to setup/breakdown bottling line and properly sanitize
•  Ability to run the filler/corker/foiler/labeler section of the line
•  Ability to maintain and upgrade the bottling line over time
•  Experience with carbonating beverages
•  Ability to setup/breakdown canning line and properly sanitize
•  Ability to run the filler/seamer section of the line
•  Ability to maintain and upgrade the line over time
•  Experience with hauling large loads
•  Knowledge of proper hand tool and power tool use and safety


Specific skill level and experience will determine what duties you will be fully and partially responsible for as well as compensation.
