POSITION OVERVIEW
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Cellar Worker to join our team at Ridge Vineyards’ Monte Bello in the Santa Cruz Mountains. As a Cellar Worker, you will play a vital role in the winemaking process, contributing to the production of high-quality wines while working in a dynamic and collaborative environment. You will work closely with our Production team at our Monte Bello Estate in Cupertino, CA. You may occasionally be asked to travel to our Lytton Springs Estate in Healdsburg, CA. Ideal candidates will thrive in diverse and dynamic environments, from the vineyard to the cellar, and possess a strong commitment to upholding the ideals and objectives of Ridge Vineyards. The role requires individuals who are willing to work long hours, often in physically demanding conditions, and who are dedicated to contributing to the high standards of quality and excellence that Ridge Vineyards is known for.
RESPONSIBILTIES
Grape Processing
Assist with the hand-sorting of grapes at harvest
Operate equipment such as crushers and destemmers to process grapes
Fermentation Monitoring and Management
Daily checks on fermentation vessels (temperature, Brix, etc.)
Perform punch-downs, pump-overs, and other fermentation management tasks
Record keeping of all fermentation activity, ensuring accurate logs are maintained
Barrel and Tank Maintenance
Clean and maintain barrels and fermentation tanks
Rack wine between tanks and barrels utilizing various makes/models of pumps
Monitor wine maturation, assisting with barrel topping and routine sulfur additions
Bottling and Packaging
Assist with preparing wine for bottling, including plate and frame filtration
Help with the bottling process, ensuring proper labeling and packaging
Cellar Hygiene and Maintenance
Maintain cleanliness and organization of the cellar, ensuring all equipment is sanitized
Regularly clean pumps, hoses, and other tools used in wine production
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Strong work ethic and interest in wine
Highly organized and detail-oriented with a proactive approach to problem-solving
Excellent communication and teamwork skills, but can also work independently
Ability to lift 50lbs, stand, bend, and walk on a regular basis, occasionally climb ladders and catwalks
Maintain a regular, full-time schedule that includes overtime, weekends and holidays as needed
Hold a valid driver’s license and possess a clean driving record
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Previous experience in winemaking or cellar operations
Spanish language proficiency
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
$25 hourly rate (with opportunities for overtime pay during harvest)
