Job Description:

Blenheim Vineyards is seeking an outstanding individual to fill a season-long role in the Vineyard and Cellar. Starting early May 2025 and continuing until late October 2025.

About Blenheim

Established in 2000 by owner Dave Matthews, Blenheim Vineyards is located 20 minutes southeast of Charlottesville. With three vineyard sites growing Albariño, Chardonnay, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and many others, the goal at Blenheim is to make high quality wines that reflect the climate, soil and beauty of the surrounding landscape.

Responsibilities

Vineyard
Sampling: petiole, maturity, crop estimates.
Disease monitoring.
Field work as required such as suckering/shoot thinning, weeding, wire movement, leaf & fruit thinning, picking.
Vineyard development work.
Operate utility vehicle and light equipment such as weed eaters and backpack sprayers.
Operate tractors and tractor implements to accomplish vineyard practices such as mowing, hedging, etc.

Cellar
Basic cellar cleaning and sanitation.
Fruit reception, processing, pressing, cap management, racking, blending.
Participation in bottling.

Lab
Sampling from barrel and tank.
Analysis of juice and wine samples.
Fermentation monitoring.

Qualifications
A passion for wine and desire to learn more about production.
Degree in Viticulture, Enology, Chemistry, Biology, Food Science, or other science related field is definitely a plus.
Previous vineyard and cellar experience is preferred.
Experience with forklifts and tractors preferred.
Working knowledge of basic winery operations.
English speaker with Spanish speaking a plus.
Well organized with excellent attention to detail
Punctual and reliable.
Ability to follow safety regulations, operating procedures, and company policies.
Able to work alone or as part of a team.
Ability to lift 40-50 lbs.
Ability to work in a wide range of hot and cold environments and weather conditions, and to spend long hours on their feet in the cellar and vineyards.
Valid driver’s license, transport and a clean driving record.
Willingness to work 6 days a week during harvest.
Ability to work safely at all times.
