Job Summary:
The Castoro Cellars and Bethel Rd. Distillery Tasting Room Manager must be friendly, enthusiastic and easy to work with. They must possess an understanding and appreciation of the wine industry, enjoy working in hospitality, be extremely organized, have strong leadership attributes, and be willing to wear many different hats.
This position must provide strategic, unbiased, and objective advisory services which assist the organization in improving sales, customer experience, productivity, building team culture and overall performance.
The Tasting Room Manager must work well with management, project managers, partners, vendors, and teams, to ensure efficiency and continuous improvement of all operations related to the Tasting Rooms.
This position will require participation in networking activities to develop new strategies, tools, and techniques in areas of Direct Consumer Sales.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Tasting Room Operations:
• Perform daily opening, closing, and weekend management of the Tasting Rooms and staff.
• Manage the Tasting Rooms for all tastings, sales, and operations.
• Develop and refine SOPs for all tasting room procedures.
• Answer phone calls, emails, and questions concerning Castoro Cellars and Bethel Rd.
• Accurately handle the POS system, cash, bank deposits, and credit card transactions.
• Adjust staffing levels on a weekly basis to meet demands.
• Ensure payroll accuracy (timecards, tips, commissions).
• Evaluate staff performance and provide leadership and management to ensure staff is fully utilized.
• Educate staff on the wines, spirits and history of the business.
• Collaborate with Winemaking for staff education and training of the wines.
• Hire, train and hold all staff to a high standard of professional excellence.
• Meet with management monthly to review operational budgets and expenses.
• Complete monthly merchandise and wine inventory counts and restocking.
• Manage the maintenance and upkeep of the Tasting Room grounds and facilities.
• Follow all ABC rules and regulations.
Sales:
• Develop new ideas and ways to elevate the tasting experience and drive sales and wine club sign ups.
• Manage the sales and budget oversight of private events including, but not limited to, weddings, dinners, fundraisers, and receptions.
• Develop incentives for Staff to grow the Wine Club, DTC Sales and traffic to the Tasting Rooms.
• Set up and manage off-site tastings and events to build brand awareness in the community and drive sales and traffic to the Tasting Rooms.
• Report weekly, monthly and quarterly sales data to management, benchmarked against sales goals for each period.
• Evaluate product pricing, develop and implement ideas to remain competitive.
• Assist with sales promotions, email and text campaigns.
• Assist with Wine Club communication, shipments and pickup parties.
• Cultivate a culture of high performing sales and customer service.
• Continuous presence on the Tasting Room floor to develop relationships with customers and enforce elevated hospitality experiences.
Event & Hospitality:
• Facilitate and provide oversight for VIP, special, and large groups tastings.
• Provide oversight and input to promote and execute all concert, festival, and wine club events including, but not limited to, Lazy Locals, Whale Rock Music Festival, Wine Fest, Club Pick Up Parties, and Yoga Brunches.
• Provide new event ideas to Management.
• Assist securing vendors for events.
• Oversee Disc Golf daily operations.
• Other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
• Education/Experience: Minimum five years of Tasting Room management experience or related Hospitality experience with DTC Sales, Wine Club Sales, Event Planning, and Operations. College Degree in hospitality, communications, or business management preferred.
• Skills: Friendly and outgoing disposition with a desire and ability to achieve excellent customer service. Must be self-motivated and goal orientated. Ability to work alone or in a team well and efficiently. Must be able to multitask and work in a high-energy environment and maintain order during busy days. Good computer skills and abilities (Word, spreadsheet management). Excellent follow-through and project management skills; ability to work well with people at all levels in the company, excellent verbal and written English communication skills. Team-oriented, with the ability to prioritize, organize, meet deadlines with accuracy, and have good planning skills. Must have a fun attitude and bring a positive work spirit to the job.
• Knowledge: Strong interest in wine and spirits, with a desire to constantly learn more about the wine industry.
• Physical: Must be 21 years or older with the ability to sit or stand for two-hour intervals; able to operate a computer and telephone; able to lift, carry 50 pounds; able to work flexible shifts and schedules, willing to work hours as needed, weekend and holidays. Must be able to work in hot and cold conditions.
