Iris Vineyards is hiring Seasonal Temporary Cellar Workers paying $17-$19 per hour plus a $500 bonus awarded to individuals who stay until the end of harvest.
We craft our wines with pride and intention. We take care in the work we do.
Successful candidates must be able to work independently and as part of a team. Work is physically demanding. Conditions in the winery are sometimes cold and wet.
The worksite is in Cottage Grove, Oregon. Reliable transportation is essential.
The schedule is variable. Open availability is essential.
The position is full-time (40 hours per week) and begins approximately August 12 & lasts until approximately November 15. The work schedule will vary due to the nature of the harvest schedule.
Iris Vineyards also hires seasonal employees for Summer at our vineyard to help cultivate our grapes before we make them into wine.
These positions are a great introduction to Oregon’s exciting and dynamic wine industry.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Protection of wine is top priority. Collaborate with Cellar Master or Winemaker in maintenance of both empty and full barrels. Advise the Cellar Master or Winemaker of any losses that occur with fruit or wine. Operate equipment responsibly and in a manner which preserves functionality. Assure work area is clean at all times. Return fittings and equipment to proper location at end of shift. Maintain winery protocols for sanitizing and keep tanks, fittings and other equipment sanitized. Participate in maintenance of buildings, tools and equipment. Bottling line duties may be included. Attendance and punctuality are essential functions of this position.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Standing and walking on cement with some climbing of stairs and ladders. Crawling into confined spaces. Repetitive use of hands and wrists to perform cellar operations and some computer work. Lifting/carrying average weight frequently 40 lbs. Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Pushing/pulling average weight frequently 50 lbs.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Must adhere to all policies and procedures of the company, including safety procedures and use of personal protective equipment. Exposed to wine production equipment noise, glass bottles and general noise from winery operations. Cleaning fermentation tanks may include crawling inside. Visually exposed to computer screens and fluorescent lighting. Must be able to stand for long periods of time, walk, reach with hands and arms, taste and smell.

QUALIFICATIONS: Keen interest in winery/winemaking business. Knowledge of wine production a plus. Read, write, and speak English fluently. Must pass criminal background check.

SUCCESS FACTORS: Working knowledge of the equipment used on a regular basis as well as the concepts of clean and sanitized. Familiarity with winemaking science. Open and clear communication with winery management and staff. Ability to ask for clarification especially in regard to protecting the wine. Be available morning and evening to perform punch-downs of fermenters. Work long hours during harvest. Help load and unload trucks. Follow all appropriate policies and procedures including safety procedures. Perform other work when necessary and prudent.
