Harvest Internship 2024 - Paso Robles, CA

Caliza Winery

Paso Robles, CA

Job Description:

Caliza Winery is a small, premium winery established in 2006 on the west side of Paso Robles. We focus mainly on Rhone varieties along with Tempranillo and Cabernet Sauvignon. Owned and operated by Carl and Pam Bowker, Caliza makes wines that are true to site and vintage, and we pride ourselves in the consistency of our wines year to year. We are looking for a harvest intern to join our very small winery team here in Paso Robles for the 2024 vintage. You will be exposed to fruit from all over Paso Robles and many different varieties between Caliza and our sister brand End Of The Day Wines. Combined tonnage in house will be approximately 70 tons. Our winemaking facility is in Tin City, so the harvest environment is lively and exciting and there is no long commute off the highway.

This is a full-time, seasonal position from approximately Mid-August through Mid-November, depending on the season. Previous winery experience is preferred but not required. You will work closely with our Winemaker and Assistant Winemaker and be able to see every detail from vineyard to barrel, which makes this a great learning opportunity. A successful candidate will have a great work ethic, willingness to learn, great communication and organizational skills, and a good sense of humor!

RESPONSIBILITIES:
•  Cleaning and sanitization of barrels, winemaking equipment, and facilities
•  Fruit sorting and processing
•  Fermentation management
•  Draining and digging out tanks
•  Filling and cleaning the press
•  Filling and topping barrels
•  Vineyard sampling
•  Potentially some lab analysis
SCHEDULE AND QUALIFICATIONS:
•  During the peak of harvest, you will be expected to work up to 6 days a week. We will always give you at least one day off per week to rest and recover!
•  Hours vary from the standard 8-hour days to 12+ hours depending on the season and what it brings.
•  Have reliable transportation and be on-time and ready to work
•  Attention to detail is a must
•  Ability to work independently with minimal supervision at times
•  Understanding of cellar operations with an eagerness to learn
•  Good organizational skills and the ability to take on many tasks at a time
•  Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and work on your feet for 10 or more hours a day in an indoor/outdoor setting

Apply with resume and cover letter.
