Director of Tasting Room Operations

Job Description:

Position Summary: The Director of Tasting Room Operations provides leadership and engagement for Tasting Room Managers, hospitality team members, and guest service at Boisset properties. With innovation and a future-forward mindset, sales performance for all properties is a key focus in this position. The Director will collaborate with marketing and inventory teams to drive initiatives and continuously raise the bar for growth through the leaders at each Boisset property. Financial acumen is needed as this role provides detailed monthly and ad hoc reporting and analysis, infrastructure support, budgeting, analysis, commission calculation and other functions in partnership with accounting and finance. This role will work cross-functionally, overseeing multiple direct and indirect reports. With a desire to be the best, the Director must bring a tenacity, passion for hospitality, and nonpareil commitment to excellence. The Director will collaborate with marketing, Membership, and inventory teams to drive initiatives and continuously raise the bar for growth through the leaders at each Boisset property.

Essential Functions:

Operational Leadership and Team Engagement
•  Own overall management and engagement of properties, directly managing Tasting Room managers.
•  Ensure seamless operations, aligned with each brand's vision, history, and goals for exceptional guest experiences.
•  Bring operational expertise and a passion for delivering excellence in the wine and hospitality industry that elevates the standards for staff at each property, educating and engaging team members to be the best.

Inventory, Experience, and Initiative Management
•  Review pricing and create collaborative discussions with marketing over necessary changes across properties, developing campaigns to drive guests to properties.
•  Focus on unique new product and wine experience development across all Direct to Guest areas in collaboration with inventory, marketing, Ambassadors, and wine club.
•  Participate in and implement safety and security procedures on each property in partnership with Tasting Room Manager.
•  Ensure infrastructure support and maintenance standards are maintained at each property in partnership with maintenance managers to prevent any lapse in experience or operations.

Reporting and Analysis
•  Provide VP with Weekly Sales & Labor report and analysis of all properties' activity including Sales; sales by person; Visitation; Club sign-ups, including previous year, and Comparison; pours; product.
•  Provide VP with monthly update on Boisset Experiences and Product sales trends, and a bi-annual competitor set analysis of Experiences, sales, and visitation trends.
•  Complete ad hoc reporting and analysis based on VP requests.
•  Lead budgeting for DTG properties and CapEx projects.
•  Review commission reports submitted for each property.

Additional Functions:

•  Comply with all company safety policies, practices, and procedures. Participate in safety training and report all unsafe conditions or work practices.
•  Participate in team efforts and perform additional duties as needed.

Necessary Skills:

Language: Ability to speak and understand basic English required for all positions.
•  Ability to read and interpret documents such as memos, instructions, policies, and manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to present information effectively to groups of customers and/or employees and participate in one-on-one and small group situations.

Math:

•  Ability to calculate items such as discounts, commissions, simple interest, percentages, areas, circumference, and volume. Ability to understand fractions, ratios, and proportions. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Logic:

•  Ability to apply common sense understanding to multiple tasks, analyze and solve practical problems, prioritize, and delegate tasks and projects, work both independently and as part of a team, and adapt to frequent changes in the work environment.

Computer:

•  Possess intermediate computer skills which can include e-mail, internet, word processing, spreadsheet, basic database activity, graphic arts, and/or publishing.

Education, Experience, Certificates, Licenses:

•  Bachelor's Degree (B.A. or B.S.) from a 4-year college or university; or 5-7 years of experience in a hospitality operational role.
•  Proven sales and marketing experience a plus.
•  Current, valid Driver's License, insurable driving record, and proof of current automobile insurance required.

Physical Requirements:

•  Moderate physical activity performing occasional somewhat strenuous activities including standing, walking, climbing, reaching, and carrying. Manual dexterity is sufficient to reach, handles items, and work with the fingers. Requires lifting and moving objects up to 50 lbs. in weight. Clear vision (close and distant) and ability to adjust focus. Hearing adequate for telephone, office, and group conversation.

Work Environment:

•  Primarily in a well-lighted, heated, and/or air-conditioned indoor setting with adequate ventilation. Periods are required in an un-heated indoor setting (wine cellar) with changing conditions. Short periods outdoors while conducting tours or moving between buildings. Moderate noise levels typical of public space: music sound system, public conversations, telephones/cell phones, large groups.

Schedule and Travel Requirements:

•  Variable schedule: primarily a set schedule that will require weekends and evenings.
•  Position may require overnight travel.
•  Commuting across the Bay Area especially across Napa and Sonoma counties in essential.
