2024 Harvest Winemaking Intern

Tin Barn is in Sonoma, CA and has been producing wine for over 20 years. About 20% of our production is under the Tin Barn brand which makes high quality sparkling, white, rose, and red wines from throughout Sonoma County AVAs including Moon Mountain, Bennett Valley, Petaluma Gap, Carneros, Sonoma Mountain, and Sonoma Coast. The remainder of our production is focused on high-end Custom Crush clients spanning Napa and Sonoma. Our clients offer our interns the opportunity to meet many winemakers who have diverse winemaking styles across different sub-regions. For instance, in the 2023 harvest we processed 20 different grape varieties!

We are looking for 2 to 3 interns to join our small dynamic winemaking team for the 2024 harvest. This position will be from Mid-August to November but will extend or contract as determined by the growing season. This will be a hands-on and engaging opportunity to learn and experience the entire gamut of what harvest has to offer at a small production facility on a fun and tightly-knit team.

Job Description:
- Cleaning & sanitizing tanks, equipment and barrels
- Vineyard site visits & sampling
- Prepping and operating fruit receival, de-stemming, and pressing equipment
- Fermentation monitoring (Brix, Temp, Sensory)
- Cap Management – punchdowns, pumpovers, additions
- Operating the press
- Barrel prep & barreling down
- Monthly sampling & topping of barrels
- Involvement in winemaking conversations and tastings

Requirements:
- Previous winery experience is preferred but we are looking for someone passionate and eager to learn and we are willing to train the right candidate
- Compliance with all safety requirements
- Forklift experience is a plus
- Team-player & enthusiastic
- Ability to work long & sometimes irregular hours and on weekends as needed
- Ability to read, write, and speak English
- Ability to lift 50 lbs, move heavy pumps & equipment, climb stairs & ladders, and comfortable working in wet conditions
- Comfortable with long periods of standing
- Comfortable working with machinery
- Reliable transportation to and from work
- Existing authorization to work in the United States

Hourly Rate is $21.00 to $23.00, awarded based upon previous harvest experience.
During harvest, overtime hours should be anticipated with delicious harvest lunches provided often!
