This is an opportunity for someone to gain experience working in world-class estate vineyards in a premier wine-growing region. This position requires carrying out various viticulture and vineyard management tasks. The perfect candidate is hard-working, ambitious, a curious thinker, and a team player.
** $1500 Housing Stipend per Month for Qualified Candidates Relocating
Seasonal, from the first week of May until the end of October.
Essential Functions
• Monitor vineyards for pests and diseases.
• Crop Estimation, including cluster counts and weights in estate vineyards.
• Collect leaf petiole samples and send them to the lab. (Interpret Results)
• Collect Soil Samples and send them to the lab. (Interpret Results)
• Release Beneficial Insects for Vine Mealybug control.
• Monitor and report on phenology and grape maturity.
• Gather, process, and record grape maturity samples.
• Collaborate with Farm Labor Contractors on Pesticide use Reports, work orders, record keeping, and day-to-day vineyard operations.
Non-Essential Functions
• Assist in the planning of vineyard day-to-day operations. Capex development, vine training, irrigation, fertilization, canopy management, and harvest.
• Assist with irrigation scheduling and monitoring.
• Monitor, log, and report all Organic farming operations to comply with CCOF regulations
• Assist in monitoring picking crews during night harvest for quality control. Help with weighing and making sure the delivery truck is loaded properly.
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
• Work is performed primarily outside in the vineyards in all weather conditions.
• Must be able to work overtime during the growing season.
• Must be able to work weekends depending on the growing season.
• Able to lift 50 lbs.
• Must be able to work extended hours outdoors in inclement weather.
• Must be able to walk in uneven terrain for extended periods.
• Willing and able to work flexible hours, including overtime and night shift during harvest, pesticide sprays, and as required.
• Must be able to pass a pre-hire drug test and physical.
Qualifications
• Must have excellent communication skills.
• Punctual, hardworking, and eager to join a progressive viticulture team.
• Motivated with a strong desire to learn hands-on viticulture operations and work efficiently, with a team-oriented mindset and a keen eye.
• College degree in a related field or coursework working towards a degree.
• Knowledge of basic computer programs, including Word and Excel.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Reliable transportation, current insurance, and a clean DMV record.
