Job Description:

Harvest Interns Wanted:
Before we know it the 2024 Harvest will be here - the anticipation builds as we empty our tanks of the 2023 vintage into bottle. At Duck Pond we have an emphasis on sustainable winemaking practices, so you will be able to see organic, pesticide-free, and Clean Label Project certified wines being produced up close and personal. To this end, we are looking for a crew of human beings who are game to get their hands dirty with us to kick off the process of turning grapes into over 100,000 cases of wine. It’s hard work and the hours are long (6 days a week during the heat of it), but you will get an all-encompassing experience that will take you all the way from small-lot ferments and barrel work to loading over 20 tons of white fruit into a press and processing up to 200 tons of red fruit in a single day - I guarantee you will see it all. We also produce grappa and vermouth during this time, so it doesn’t end with only wine.

We are committed to making this the best possible experience for all those involved - you’ll have to come join us to see for yourself…

Things to do:

* Learn quite a bit about how to make wine
* Work a lot
* Listen to the Grease soundtrack at least once
* Absorb the sights sounds and smells of fermenting grapes
* See winemakers fix a press (it’s tradition)
* Conduct a fight to the death with the fruit flies
* Clean here and there
* Dig out a red fermenter standing on a mountain of grapes
* Sorting small lot fruit during the most beautiful months in Oregon
* Morning punchdowns with Prince (or whatever your poison happens to be (perhaps it’s Poison))
* Evening punchdowns with Queen (we like our pop music regal)
* See/smell the full spectrum of a wine’s young life (many times over)
* Ingest meals provided by Duck Pond Cellars
* Live in your van next to the vineyard (you won’t be the first, or the last)
* The last bullet is optional – we’re more than happy to employ those of you with non-mobile, standard-type residences (we’re not monsters after all)

Things to have:

* The ability to work flexible hours
* The ability to work long hours
* Transportation (car, bus, unicycle, helicopter (as long as it’s reliable))
* A desire to work with other living/breathing human beings
* An attention to detail
* A sense of humor (for the love of god, or we’ll never make it through)
* An appreciation for all weather conditions
* A serious respect for the safety of others and yourself
* A serious respect for other people of all kinds
