Job Description:

This unique position gives you an opportunity to experience two different harvest roles in one harvest season. Starting off the harvest season as a Harvest Viticulture Technician for the Mumm Napa team, evaluating and analyzing grapes in the vineyards then transferring to the cellar team in September to experience the cellar operations at the Kenwood Vineyards facility. This position would start in early July and end in mid-November (start and end date subject to change depending on business needs).


Harvest Viticulture Technician Position Summary:
This position is responsible for assisting Grower Relations Department in evaluating grape maturity in grower and estate vineyards. Visit estate and grower owned vineyards to monitor and sample grape maturity during harvest season. Record pertinent information, and update files. Communicate to the Grower Relations Team regarding conditions as necessary, i.e.: vine health, damage from pests, Powdery Mildew, Botrytis, etc.

Key Responsibilities:
•  Grape maturity (sugar) sampling for all vineyard blocks.
•  Scout and Monitor vineyards for pests, diseases, nutritional disorders and vine health. Communicate issues to Grower Relations as needed.
•  Data entry into and work with Excel spreadsheets.
•  Cluster counts and cluster weights to help with crop estimates.
•  Check on individual vineyard(s) grape harvesting as needed for quality control
•  Assist with collection, verification and filing of required reports needed from growers, i.e. Pre-harvest pest reports.
•  Special projects and responsibilities as assigned.

Skills / Qualifications / Experience:
Required Qualifications:
•  Over 18 years of age
•  Safe driving record with valid California Driver’s License
•  Comfortable driving on dirt roads and in vineyard terrain
•  Personable and good verbal communication to interact with growers and vineyard management companies
•  Physical endurance: be able to work outdoors in different terrains and climates
•  Computer literate: basic level of Microsoft Excel & Word.


Physical Demands and Work Conditions:
•  Flexible hours, weekends and long hours will be required during grape harvest
•  Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
•  Enjoys working out-of-doors and in all types of weather
•  Requires frequent driving and walking through vineyards with varied terrain

Cellar Worker Position Summary:

Responsibilities include pump overs, punch downs, racking, clarifying and blending of juice and wine, sanitation in all areas of cellar operation, cleaning and sterilizing tanks and other equipment. Overtime is required as needed to meet operational needs.

Key Responsibilities:

•  General cleaning and sanitation of winery & equipment.
•  Transfers, Flotation and racking of juice from tank to tank
•  Set up and monitor pump-overs in a quality and time efficient way
•  Removing pomace from tanks & presses
•  Accurately complete work orders and other tracking documentation
•  Follows standard operating procedures in the performance of all cellar activities to ensure
maximum productivity and wine quality objectives are achieved
•  Adheres to all safety policies and procedures, including but not limited to timely and accurate
reporting of all work related injuries and illnesses to the supervisor, promoting safety
awareness to co-workers, advising the supervisor of any unsafe acts and conditions, wearing
required personal protective equipment and following confined space protocol where
necessary
•  Other duties as needed

Skills / Qualifications / Experience:
Required Qualifications:
•  Experience with at least one harvest
•  Perform basic math calculations to complete written work orders

Preferred Skills:
•  Accurately measure, prepare and make additions to juice, must, & wine
•  Ability to recognize and report off aromas in tanks
•  Operation of mechanical mixers
•  Wine certification is desirable but not required

Physical Demands and Work Conditions:
•  Working conditions in certain areas of the winery can be cold/hot, wet, slipper and noisy
•  Flexible hours (AM or PM), weekends and long hours will be required during grape harvest
•  Handling hazardous materials and frequent walking, including going up and down stairs and
ladders, dragging wine hoses and bending are required
•  Ability to lift up to 50 pounds

Pay Transparency Disclosure: The pay scale for this position is $18.00/hr - $21.00/hr. These figures represent what we reasonably expect to pay for this position, but the actual compensation offered will depend upon numerous job-related factors, including but not limited to candidate qualifications, skills, experience, education, location, and alignment with market data. The Company reserves the right to modify the range in the future.
