Head Winemaker: award-winning family owned winery

Job Description:

Started in 2016, Our winery and ranch is a unique concept based in a fast growing area of Texas. We have a full wine making facility on site as well as a restaurant and tasting concept. We are now seeking a skilled and experienced Head Winemaker to lead our winemaking and oversee all aspects of wine production. The ideal candidate will have a passion for winemaking, a deep understanding of viticulture and enology, and a proven track record of producing high-quality wines. The Head Winemaker will be responsible for managing the entire winemaking process from grape to bottle, ensuring consistency, quality, and innovation in all our wines.

Key Responsibilities:

**Grape Sourcing and Vineyard Management**
While we do have vineyards on site and these support one or two of our SKUs, you will need to identify and source high-quality grapes from trusted growers for the rest of the wines, so this will be a critical aspect of the job. While less important, you should have experience in pruning, canopy management, irrigation, and harvest timing to ensure optimal grape quality for the vines on site. You will also be responsible for overseeing the vineyard operations.

**Wine Production**
You will be responsible for developing and executing winemaking protocols, including crushing, pressing, fermentation, aging, blending, and bottling. You will also be responsible for monitoring and controlling fermentation parameters to achieve desired wine styles (we currently have several different types).

**Operations**
You will manage cellar operations, including barrel management, racking, filtration, and bottling logistics. You will also implement and maintain comprehensive record-keeping systems for all winemaking activities, including inventory management and regulatory compliance.

**Quality Assurance and Compliance**
You will implement and enforce quality control measures to ensure that all wines meet or exceed established standards for aroma, flavor, color, and balance. You will also ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations regarding winemaking, labeling, and record-keeping.


Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Enology, Viticulture, Food Science, or related field (advanced degree preferred).
Minimum 4-7 years of experience in winemaking, with a proven track record of producing award-winning wines.
Strong knowledge of grape varietals, vineyard management practices, and winemaking techniques.
Excellent sensory evaluation skills and ability to taste and assess wines critically.
Proficiency in laboratory analysis, including familiarity with common analytical instruments and techniques.
Leadership experience, with the ability to inspire and motivate a diverse team of employees.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, vendors, and industry partners.
Must be willing to move near vinery
