Job Description:

Position Summary: As the Cellar Production Manager at Raymond Vineyards, you will play a pivotal role in driving the success of our winemaking operations. Your responsibilities include leading and managing the cellar operations and the production team, ensuring seamless workflow and collaboration. This role requires a keen focus on directing production activities, closely collaborating with winemakers across facilities, and meeting crucial production targets. Your leadership will be instrumental in ensuring that our shipping/receiving schedules and bottling deadlines are achieved efficiently and effectively, maintaining the high standards of our winery.

Essential Functions and Supervisory Responsibilities:

•  Coordinating Workflow: Ensuring adherence to winemaking procedures and deadlines. Forecasting operations during peak periods, including harvest and bottling.
•  Overseeing Cellar Activities: Supervising tasks such as fruit weighing, crushing, pressing, fermentation, filtering, barrel aging, bottling, and shipping/receiving.
•  Facilitating Communication: Acting as a liaison between winemakers and cellar staff. Delegating duties and managing day-to-day production activities.
•  Hiring and Supervising Staff: Managing the hiring process for Cellar I, II, and Lead team members. Overseeing team dynamics and ensuring adequate training and equipment. Scheduling employees, approving timecards, and following other requirements in company HRIS system.
•  Conducting Performance Evaluations: Providing coaching and counseling. Maintaining a skills development checklist for continuous growth.
•  Managing Payroll and Personnel Issues: Reviewing timecards and coordinating with human resources. Addressing personnel issues in a timely manner.
•  Staffing for Peak Season: Arranging additional staff for temporary labor needs.
•  Inventory Management: Maintaining stock of supplies for winemaking and bottling.
•  Implementing and Enforcing SOPs and Safety Protocols: Serving as an on-site safety manager. Ensuring compliance with OSHA standards.
•  Documentation Management: Overseeing SOPs, inventory audits, BOLs, workforce training, and maintenance logs.
•  Environmental Management: Ensuring responsible disposal of winery waste products.
•  Equipment Maintenance: Assisting with repairs and coordinating emergency maintenance.
•  Collaboration for Improvement: Working with Winemaking and Maintenance teams to enhance efficiency and productivity.
•  Cultivating a Positive Environment: Prioritizing safety, quality, and continuous improvement.

Additional Functions:

•  Foster Quality and Growth: Actively collaborate with the team to enhance quality standards and support the professional growth of our employees.
•  Ensure Cohesive Operations: Serve as the key intermediary between our facility, other company sites, and partner wineries, ensuring seamless and unified operations across all locations.

Necessary Skills:

Language:

•  Must possess a strong command of English with the capability to understand and communicate effectively. Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish are preferred.
•  Capable of reading and comprehending various documents, including memos, instructions, policies, and manuals. Competent in drafting reports and official communication. Skilled in delivering clear and informative presentations to staff, as well as engaging effectively in one-on-one and small group discussions.

Math:

•  Should be proficient in basic arithmetic operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) with both American and metric measurements related to currency, weight, volume, and distance. Must be able to detect and rectify errors when utilizing calculators or spreadsheet software.

Logic:

•  Ability to apply common sense understanding to multiple tasks, analyze and solve practical problems, prioritize and delegate tasks and projects, work both independently and as part of a team, and adapt to frequent changes in the work environment.

Computer:

•  Proficient in digital communication and databases, including e-mail, internet, word processing, spreadsheets, and winemaking database InnoVint.

Education, Experience, Certificates, Licenses:

•  Bachelor's Degree from a 4-year college or university with 2 years of cellar experience; or 4 years cellar experience; or equivalent combination of education and operational experience.
•  Current, valid Driver's License, insurable driving record, and proof of current automobile insurance required.
•  Forklift certification and/or training
•  Cellar experience in a leadership and management capacity required
•  Experience with winemaking systems required, experience with InnoVint a plus
•  Previous experience managing teams

Physical Requirements:

•  Heavy physical activity performing regular strenuous activities, including standing, walking, climbing, reaching, carrying, pushing, pulling, squatting, and other motions. Stability and balance adequate for elevated and/or narrow work areas. Requires lifting and moving objects up to 50 lbs. in weight independently, and up to 100 lbs. or more with assistance. Manual dexterity sufficient to reach, grasp, hold, handle items, and work with the fingers, wrists, elbows, and shoulders. Clear vision (close and distant), peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Hearing adequate for working safely around machinery, vehicles, and other equipment.

Work Environment:

•  Indoor and outdoor environment with variable lighting, temperature and/or ventilation. Areas may or may not be heated, air-conditioned, or shaded. Outdoor periods frequently required in changing weather conditions. Exposure to fumes and/or a variety of chemicals. Moderate to high noise levels typical of machinery, power tools, vehicles, and other equipment. (Note: PPE provided for all workers.)

Schedule and Travel Requirements:

•  Variable schedule: Primarily a set schedule but requires weekends, periodic evenings, and/or periodic or seasonal overtime particularly during grape harvest.
