Job Description:
Seeking a head winemaker for a beautiful North Georgia wine making facility. Position includes all aspects of wine-making from overseeing direction of 16.5 acres of estate grown vines, fermentation management, barrel management, bottling, and general cellar work.
Key Responsibilities:
Wine-making
• Responsible for day to day wine-making of all wines produced.
• Working with the Vineyard Manager to ensure projects are completed and fruit is of highest quality
• Maintain a weekly work schedule for vineyard and winery team
• Continue/develop wine-making procedures, capital projects, grape sourcing (if required), material purchasing as well as capacity planning.
• Establish wine-making processes and procedures to accomplish wine quality and style objectives and ensure winemaking operations meet expectations.
• Ensure compliance with TTB regulations related to all wine-making activities.
• May determine quality standard and brand style objective for some varietals within a brand.
• Create a plan for growth (on site vineyards vs off site fruit source) for the future
• Create opportunities for direct-to-retail wholesale accounts
Image and Promotion
• Actively participate in sales and marketing efforts necessary to promote and educate sales, distributors and the public about vineyards, wines and winemaking.
• Be present for sales and marketing events for the winery
Purchasing and Finance
• Assist with the research and preparation of capital projects.
• Have an understanding of COGS.
• Compute and submit monthly and/or quarterly wine taxes for County, State and Federal
Education & Information Resource
• Act as a wine-making resource for the winery through educational tastings, cultural development
• Track blend information to ensure appropriate record keeping for legal compliance with Federal and State regulations relating to all wine-making activities.
• Work with our on-site chef to create wine dinners for our wine club members and their guests
• Grow our wine club base and lead wine club specific events
Experience
• A minimum of three years of experience in a lead wine-making role with proven wine-making results.
• Enology & Viticulture degree preferred but not essential. Ability to make great wine, however, is essential.
