Faust is looking for a seasonal harvest assistant winemaker to join our world class team wine making team in Sebastopol!
This position is responsible for all day to day winery operations at our Faust Winery, supporting our production team while optimizing quality and efficiency. This position also supports all production and administrative aspects of winemaking. This is a hands-on position that requires strong organizational, management, cellar and computer skills. Extensive experience in luxury winemaking is necessary for this role.
Essential Duties:
*The following reflects essential functions for this role but does not restrict the tasks that may be assigned.
Production Facility Oversight (70%):
• Works with Winemaker (WM) & Cellarmaster to plan and execute harvest winemaking operations.
• Uses highly developed palate to monitor fermentations.
• Proactively finds opportunities to improve wine quality with WM support.
• Maintains high-level of communication with all team members. Updates WM on progress of all winemaking activities.
• Maintains a clean, organized & efficient cellar at all times.
• Actively participates in cellar activities if need, or time allows.
Logistics/Administration (20%):
• In coordination with Cellarmaster responsible for daily/weekly winery planning & workflow.
• Responsible for Vintrace maintenance, confirms accuracy and produces 702's.
• Coordinates trucking for bulk wine movements and shipping of barrels, bottling supplies and other dry goods.
• Physically audits additives, barrels, adjuncts, dry goods and packaging material inventories.
Tastings & Trial Blends (5%):
• Responsible for all sampling, set-up of & participation in technical tastings & blending sessions.
• Develops blends with WM, confirms their conformity to varietal and AVA restrictions.
• Prepares: acid/de-acidification & fining trials.
• Cleans up after tastings and maintains cleanliness and organization of lab.
Bottling (5%):
• Coordinates wine movements with bottling company.
• Assures that all bottling supplies have been ordered are set to deliver on the proper days, confirm receipt and confirm that quality meets WM specifications.
• Oversees bottling.
• Tracks bottling losses to better predict future production.
Qualifications
• BS in Fermentation Science or related science field
• 5+ years in fine wine production leadership.
• Intermediate or better excel skills.
• Strong accuracy and attention to detail.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects.
• Ability to function independently with minimal supervision.
• Vintrace experience a plus.
Physical requirements
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, such as early mornings, late nights and weekends, to accommodate the needs of harvest operations.
• Ability to climb stairs, to walk on flat and sloped terrain and lift 50 lbs.
• Ability to stand and walk over rough, steep and uneven terrain in hot and/or inclement weather.
• Ability to perform physically demanding tasks outdoors in changing weather conditions.
• Ability to sit and work from a work station up to 1-2 hours

Wage range: $75,000 to $85,000
