Position Purpose
Under little or no supervision, the Barrel Room Supervisor is responsible for the barreling wine process, while supporting wine quality and barrel health. This position plays a vital role in providing decision-making support, while fostering a team-oriented and continuous improvement environment within the department and company.
Functional Responsibility
• Supervises the day-to-day operations and assigned staff in accordance with management's direction
• Leads in a constructive manner by example; demonstrates and encourages a strong work ethic and fosters an environment of trust and respect
• Guides team in the proper use of assets and resources to avoid waste and ensure cost-effective operations
• Monitors performance and regularly communicates with team to achieve mutual understanding, maintain level of productivity, and deliver desired results
• Partners with immediate manager to determine staffing needs
• Ensures employees have a safe, healthy, and rewarding work environment, provides applicable safety training and resolves/reports safety issues to management
• Supports change initiatives and company decisions in an effective manner
• Immediately informs management and addresses employee issues, concerns, and complaints in an objective and confidential manner
• Ensures employees are trained on the policies, processes, and procedures related to functional area; maintains company and regulatory compliance during day-day-operations
• Adheres to departmental GPS (Performance Management) guidelines and ensures proper GPS documentation; trains employees to do the job; identifies and makes suggestions for training needs and development opportunities
Essential Duties
• Directly supports Delicato Management direction to ensure the work unit meets expectations
• Implements Barreling and Quality processes that support business strategies aligned with winemaking requirements, wine supply conditions, and Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB) requirements
• Follows company directives and verifies employee participation and adherence to Health & Safety, ISO, GMPS, and any other customer-required programs, utilizing current and updated documentation
• Maintains accurate inventory records for wine movements, barrel and wine ingredients; ensures accurate tracking of barrel attributes
• Schedules work accordingly to meet production demands and wine quality requirements
• Communicates and closely interacts with Winemaking, Winemaking Planning, Lab, Compliance and other internal customers to ensure clear understanding of processing requirements, meeting deadlines, and setting priorities
• Interacts on the floor with assigned staff (making rounds, assisting, training, monitoring, etc.) at least 70% of the time; provides support to team as needed for coaching and assistance
• Supports Continuous Improvement by promoting the use of performance measuring tools and utilizing collected data to set improvement standards; supports the implementation and effectiveness of Lean initiatives
• Ensures adequate production coverage to maximize resource utilization, supporting Cellar needs as necessary, including harvest, while ensuring team attendance complies with company policies
• Fosters a safe working environment by holding regular Tailgate/Safety meetings, presenting employees with ideas and suggestions to promote safety in their working environment
• Recommends potential improvements in staffing, facilities, equipment, and processes to maintain wine quality and barrel health
• Actively participate in the development and training of the team, working with the Technical Trainer to assess the team's technical skills and development needs
• Serves as a technical resource within the organization
• Provides direct support for Capex project development and execution
• Collaborates with Maintenance personnel to repair, improve, or replace equipment
• Assists in the procurement of department supplies and barrels
• Operates forklifts safely and efficiently to move and high stack barrel racks
• Performs the duties of a Barrel Technician as necessary

Minimum Requirements
Education and Experience
• High School Diploma or GED equivalent
• 6+ years of Cellar/Barrel room experience with extensive cellar operation knowledge
• 3-5 years of direct supervisory or leadership experience
