2023 Harvest Intern with Harper Voit Wines

Harper Voit Wines

McMinnville, OR

Job Description:

Harper Voit is looking for harvest interns for the upcoming 2023 harvest season! We are a small team led by owner/winemaker Drew Voit and winemaker Jessica West. We produce wines for Harper Voit and Approachment brands, owned by Drew and Jess respectively, along with 15 premium custom crush clients throughout the Willamette Valley. We anticipate roughly 300+ tons of fruit this harvest season coming from almost every AVA in the valley (plus some from Washington AVAs) and ranging from sparkling wine and Pinot blanc to Pinot noir and Syrah (and many more in between!).

Harvest duties:
-Vineyard sampling - sampling select vineyard sites in the WV (this is an option for any interested interns!)
-Crush activities - receiving, sorting, and pressing fruit
-Lab analysis - basic analysis (Brix, pH, temp) of vineyard/juice/wine samples, opportunities to be trained on higher level equipment
-Fermentation management - developing yeast cultures, managing additions, inputting all activities into Innovint our tracking software
-Tank & fermenter activities - punchdowns, pumpovers, draining, racking and transferring juice and wine
-Barrel activities - washing, steaming, barreling down, storing
-Cleaning - there will be non-stop cleaning!!!

For 2023, we are looking for applicants with at least one harvest under their belt, but harvest experience isn't a prerequisite. Other qualifications for the ideal candidate include:
-Ability to work in a fast-paced environment where you will often be asked to jump task-to-task.
-Ability to work long hours and maintain a positive attitude through changing schedules.
-Ability to effectively communicate with other employees to ensure the day's duties are completed efficiently and mindfully.
-Ability to lift 25+ lbs.
-Some forklift experience is preferred but not required.
-Availability from early September to mid-November.
-Option to work at one of our offsite client locations, Eminent Domaine. Duties are largely the same, but we are looking for a candidate that is a self-starter and comfortable working independently. This position will be hybrid and will be split between Eminent Domaine in the Ribbon Ridge area and our facility in McMinnville. If this interests you, please indicate this when you send in your resume!

Harper Voit Harvest Intern Job Benefits:
-The size of our team and the variability of duties will mean you get lots of learning and training opportunities
-We are huge fans of food, so there will always be food around and meals will be shared daily (not to mention the wine!)
-An environment where learning and asking questions is deeply encouraged
-We are based in McMinnville, OR in the heart of the Willamette Valley
-Start and end dates of employment are open to negotiation - typically starting around early September and ending in early November
-Starting wage of $18/hour+ (DOE) with opportunities for overtime and weekend work
