The hourly rate for this role is $19-$22.

Summary

Under general supervision, the Harvest Lab Tech will assist the production and winemaking staff with lab and harvest-related activities. The Harvest Lab Tech is responsible for helping with all laboratory analysis during harvest; in addition, this position will provide technical and logistical support by performing duties such as monitoring fermentations, additions and helping the cellar team when needed. Applicants are responsible for their own housing and transportation.

Essential Duties:

*The following reflects essential functions for this role but does not restrict the tasks that may be assigned.

Lab Duties
•  Performs routine juice/wine analysis such as pH, Brix, TA, RS, SO2, VA, Ammonia, etc.
•  Ensures the proper safety procedures in the lab are followed under the direction of the Lab Supervisor
•  Performs and tracks all lab analysis and fermentations
•  Manages daily fermentations by monitoring Brix and temperatures
•  Ensures all numbers and information that are generated by the lab are accurate and communicated effectively to the Winemaking team
•  Performs bench trials in a timely manner and reports results to the winemaking team
•  Collects cluster weights on estate fruit and monitors micro-ferments
•  Assists with and tracks basic crush chemistry of vineyard samples received
•  Records weekly inventory on nutrients/ingredients and reports to Winemaker/Assistant Winemaker/Lab Supervisor

Data Entry
•  Accurately registers samples and helps enter all analytical data daily into Vintrace
•  Updates and maintains Excel spreadsheets throughout harvest

Wine QC
•  Performs lab analysis for all wines
•  Maintains accurate records of all test results and sampling
•  Ensures all equipment is properly calibrated daily; troubleshoots and offers solutions to problems as needed
•  Ensures all analysis is performed accurately and in a timely manner, according to the Lab Supervisor
•  Re-runs analysis if results are not within specifications
•  Pulls accurate samples from cellar tanks and barrels as needed for analysis
•  Reports wine analysis to Winemaker/Assistant Winemaker and alerts them of any potential issues observed while sampling

Harvest Cellar Duties
•  Assists cellar team in harvest and cellar activities when needed
•  Performs additions and inoculations


Necessary Qualifications

•  Bachelor's degree in Viticulture, Enology, Chemistry, Biology, Food Science, or other science related field
•  1 to 3 years wine industry experience, including hands-on laboratory experience
•  Experience with discrete analyzer operations
•  Previous experience working in the cellar
•  Previous experience with Vintrace or other related winery software programs
•  Spanish speaking a plus
•  Strong computer skills, especially Excel
•  Forklift experience a plus


Physical requirements

•  Ability to lift 50 lbs
•  Ability to work long hours and flexible days during harvest period
•  Ability to stand for long periods of time
•  Ability to walk over uneven ground
•  Ability to work in all types of weather and climates
•  Must be able to bend over, kneel, reach, and balance/climb on ladders
