Job Description:

Turley Wine Cellars is hiring a collaborative Tasting Room Assistant Manager with recent wine industry and supervisory experience. As an ambassador of Turley, we will ask you to lead by example in the areas of hospitality, customer service, professionalism and personal responsibility to create a gracious environment for guests, support a harmonious team culture, and meet department goals.

This is a full-time, non-exempt position. Compensation includes hourly wage, incentive pay, company bonus, profit sharing, full benefits package (medical/dental/vision/life insurance), paid vacation and holidays, employee wine program, and educational opportunities for professional development.

The schedule is Thursday-Monday (with Monday as an admin day; tasting room is closed Tuesday/Wednesday). Occasionally we will need you to work overtime but this is the exception, not the norm. We have a small, dedicated team and consistency is important. We will count on you to be here as scheduled, remain calm under pressure, and address any issues in a positive, solution focused manner that puts both the customers and team at ease.

A passionate producer and advocate of old vine Zinfandels, we make over 50 wines, the vast majority of which are single vineyard designate Zinfandels and Petite Syrahs. - Serve as the acting floor manager and maintain a consistent presence
- Ensure that the team operates to TWC standards for professionalism, customer service, product knowledge, sales goals, timekeeping/attendance, and all other TWC policies
- Work in partnership with tasting room manager to achieve common goals
- Take ownership of inventory, checklists, tasting room upkeep/presentation, and task delegation
- Lead by example in performance of all tasting room responsibilities and communications regarding personnel and/or customers issues and suggest ways to improve day to day
tasting room operations
- Assist with staff training in wine education, policies and procedures, and operating POS system
- Help onboard new employees and train staff on all basic tasting room duties
- Prepares cash drawers prior to opening with adequate change for cash transactions
- Utilizes cash register and POS system to transact sales and daily reconciliation; ensures end-of-day banking procedures are followed
- Host private tastings and assist with special events as needed
- Communicate effectively, graciously and appropriately with all guests and Turley employees while performing job responsibilities in a fast-paced environment
- Manage occasional conflict and difficult situations/conversations with tact
- Work with TR manager on development and implementation of SOPs and sales goals
- Be the in-house expert on POS and reservation system including staff training and troubleshooting basic internet/phone systems
- Print tasting room menus and other collateral

- Work a flexible schedule; weekends and holidays are required
- Maintain organized and tidy public spaces and work areas
- Manage multiple tasks and responsibilities, constantly changing priorities and diverse personalities with friendly approach and open attitude
- Frequently stand, move, and walk for long periods of time
- Bend, squat, climb, push, stoop, and crouch repeatedly
- Lift and move wine cases repeatedly throughout a shift (up to 50 pounds) for stocking, inventory, set up/breakdown procedures, and loading into customer vehicles
- Operate and move a hand truck holding 3 cases of wine (120 pounds)
- Open, smell, taste and pour wine, perform opening and closing duties and various housekeeping tasks
- Follow written and verbal instructions, accurately identify wine labels and read small print
- Efficiently move about the tasting room and property to access wine, merchandise, and supplies stored in cabinets and storage boxes at various heights
- Use arms, hands and fingers to operate to consistently and accurately operate a register, telephone, printer, and basic office productivity machinery
- Remain in a stationary position and open and pour wine repeatedly throughout working shift

- Minimum 3-5 years of experience working in similar capacity; must have recent supervisory experience, preferably in a hospitality environment
- Bachelor’s degree or relevant work experience
- Knowledge of wines and wine production is required
- Valid California driver’s license and clean driving record, forklift certification a plus
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, POS systems and office/admin tasks
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Ability to learn and incorporate new technology easily
- Highly organized with detail oriented
- Merchandising experience a plus
