Pedernales Cellars is a boutique winery established in 2008. Located in Stonewall, near Fredericksburg, TX, in the heart of the beautiful Texas Hill Country, we specialize in high quality wines. Our production facility features the largest underground barrel cellar in Texas. Pedernales wines are available at our tasting room, fine dining venues and specialty retail stores throughout Texas.
Pedernales Cellars is currently looking for a Cellar Intern to work in our 10,000-case winery. This is a full-time, paid hourly internship which runs from June through the end of September, with the possibility of extending beyond the fall. This position is excellent for those studying winemaking or viticulture, or who are interested in getting some first-hand experience into the wine production world. While the desired qualifications are ideal for working in a cellar, we will train the right candidate. By the time the internship is complete, you will have a good base level of experience that will enable you to continue to pursue a career in wine production.
Cellar Workers are ultimately responsible for the execution of the winemaking plan and wine production. Duties include but are not limited to:
•  Daily cellar functions relating to juice and wine including racking, additions, pumping, fining and filtering
•  Operation of all cellar equipment, including filters, presses, and crush equipment competently while following all relevant safety procedures
•  Barrel work including; set up, filling, pumping out, topping, sanitizing and barrel maintenance to ensure their good condition.
•  Performs sanitation duties in all areas of cellar operations including tanks, barrels and wine equipment according to company procedures
•  Assists in the receiving and processing of grapes
•  Completes and follows work orders accurately as instructed by winemaker
•  Performs work safely and follows company procedures at all times
•  Operation of forklift to include barrel stacking and bin dumping
Desired Qualifications:
•  High school diploma or equivalent
•  Desire to learn about winemaking/processing
•  Previous winery/brewery/vineyard experience
•  Willing to work flexible work schedule with overtime as requested to accommodate the needs of cellar and vineyard, especially during bottling and harvest
•  Team player mentality, passion, and enthusiasm for winemaking
•  Thorough understanding of cellar machinery
•  Ability to accomplish multiple tasks simultaneously
•  Ability to solve problems in a creative and innovative manner
•  Strong attention to detail, producing a high level of accurate results
•  Fluent English, both written and verbal with the ability to read and write in English
•  Previous forklift certification preferred
•  Ability to work independently without constant supervision
•  Ability to lift 50 lbs or more
•  Reliable transportation
•  Valid Unrestricted Driver’s License required
