Grower Relations Representative

Job Description:

Seeking a self-motivated individual to assist our Grower Relations/ Fruit Supply Management team with vineyard practices and general communication with our growers to help develop and maintain current relationships and foster new grower relationships. The position is based in St Helena, CA.

Key responsibilities and accountabilities
•  Assist in negotiation of contracted grape purchases, the maintenance and promotion of grape quality, and in the resolution of winery grower conflicts.
•  Be involved in grower liaison activities within the region including grower education programs, and seminars.
•  Involved in harvest sampling, scheduling and delivery of fruit from contracted vineyards.
•  Creates and manages his/her own schedule of field checking and monitoring vineyards during each growing season.
•  Scouting grower vineyards for plant growth, grape pests, diseases, irrigation management, and grapevine nutrition.
•  Takes detailed notes during vineyard field visits and reports recommendations to supervisor and to grower; creates detailed reports from data collected; accurately conduct crop estimates each year.
•  Meet with growers to regarding the farming plan for cultural practices specific to each vineyard.
•  Provide recommendations to each grower for cultural practices such as canopy management or irrigation management and confirm growers are following through on such suggestions.
•  Provide current grower and vineyard data to the Contract Administrator; assist in the maintenance of all grower records, contracts, and statistical reporting. Understand and utilize Copper Cane LLC databases for contract set-up and maintenance, and harvest scheduling. Maintain accurate vineyard map books for Grower vineyards.
•  Review vineyard history and past harvest data to improve on future vineyard quality and help to source new vineyards
•  Assists with managing and creating a sampling schedule for the timely collection of grape maturity samples for the Winery during harvest. Interacts with winemaking team to evaluate vineyard conditions and to assess the flavor ripeness and physiological development of Grower vineyards.
•  Assist in coordinating and monitoring the grape harvest schedules and deliveries during harvest.
•  Have an understanding of pricing and availability in the grape market and assist with sourcing fruit to meet the quality objectives of the Winery.
•  Represent Copper Cane LLC. at Wine Industry Meetings and events
•  Other duties as assigned

•  Proficient in Word, Access, Excel and Outlook and the ability to create vineyard data reports
•  Valid California Driver’s License and have a clean DMV record
•  Work site may be any one of the Copper Cane vineyards and/or locations
•  Standing for long periods of time (8 hours per day), walking and lifting of up to 55 pounds
•  Exposure to various chemicals in production areas, machinery and related production equipment
•  Long and irregular hours during peak periods during the year: 30% office work / 70% field work
•  Extensive driving
