Cowhorn Vineyard and Garden is looking for 2 enthusiastic harvest interns, with the possibility for 1 intern to stay full time as a cellar hand/winemaking assistant after harvest. We are located in the gorgeous Applegate Valley in Southern Oregon, alongside the Applegate river. About 25 acres of our 117 acre property is planted out to the vineyard.
We are a certified Biodynamic farm and winery, with a focus on Rhône varietals: Syrah, Grenache, Viognier, Marsanne and Roussanne. Cowhorn recently underwent new ownership, as well as a new head winemaker, and we are hoping for some enthusiastic harvest help!
Fruit Sampling & possibly other vineyard tasks
Cleaning & Sanitization of tanks, winemaking equipment, and barrels
Assisting in receiving fruit
Monitoring white barrels fermentation
Cap management (punch downs, pigeage, pumpovers, brix & temps)
Draining and pressing
Possible Forklift Driving if you have prior experience (not necessary)
Due to current complications in attaining a visa, we will not be taking international interns this year. Interns will be provided with housing & meals through the bulk of harvest.
Previous harvest experience is desired, but not necessary. A positive attitude, great work-ethic, and the ability to stay humble & take direction can surpass lack of experience. As with most physical jobs, the capacity to lift 50 lbs., push/pull heavy objects (like pumps and stem bins), and stand for long periods of time in both cold and hot weather is required. Candidates are also expected to work long hours including nights and weekends, meaning that there is substantial opportunity for overtime. Hourly pay will be dependent on experience.
Ideally, we are looking for eager, self-motivated, passionate people that push themselves to learn and get better every day.
Please submit your resume & cover letter, and specify in your cover letter if you are interested in the full time position after harvest. Thank you!
