Swiftwater Cellars, a small ultra-premium winery located in Cle Elum, Washington is seeking an experienced/qualified Cellar Master to join our production team.

The Cellar Master plays an integral role in all phases of our winemaking process and performs a wide range of tasks to ensure the highest quality for our wines. It is expected that the candidate will be a hands-on member of the team and take an active role in the orchestration and execution of winery operations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
•  Execute all winemaking objectives under the consulting Winemaker’s direction including blending, racking, bottling, topping as well as harvest related activities: grape processing, sorting, fermentation management, pressing and barreling down, sanitation
•  Manage all cellar work and work orders, ensuring actions are completed properly, efficiently and successfully
•  Perform juice and/or wine analysis in a timely fashion when needed. This includes the measurement of sugar, density, free S02, alcohol, titratable acidity, pH, turbidity, color, stability, residual sugar, and L-malic acid using either automated or bench chemistry analytical methods.
•  Assist in management and training of interns during harvest period
•  Organize barrel storage rooms to facilitate workflow; ensure all production spaces, equipment, barrels and supplies are organized and clean
•  Manage equipment and supplies and make recommendations for improvements; keep facilities and equipment functional throughout the year
•  Help to maintain accurate inventory of wine and barrels on a monthly basis
•  Representing the winery for pouring’s/tours as needed
•  Actively participating in the sensory evaluation of wines and blending sessions
•  Managing inventory and flow of case goods in off-site warehouse to winery
•  Filling kegs for wine on tap programs


Qualifications
•  A positive attitude with the ability to train and lead a harvest team
•  Strong forklift abilities in tight quarters (barrel room/warehouse)
•  Strong sensory evaluation skills
•  Mechanically inclined
•  Expertise in all cellar activities, including but not limited to: harvest operations, tank movements, barrel work, filtration, bottling and sanitation
•  Minimum 5-6 years experience in wine production, supervisory role a plus
•  Valid Driver’s License with a clean DMV report
•  Ability to work extended hours during harvest and bottling

Physical Requirements
•  Ability to lift and move 50lbs on repetitive basis and lift empty wine barrels
•  Ability to move heavy harvest machinery on wheels
•  Ability to stand for extended periods of time; walk, kneel, and climb stairs and ladders
