Wooldridge Creek Winery, located in the heart of the beautiful Applegate Valley AVA of Southern Oregon, is proud to be Oregon’s only combined vineyard, winery, creamery, and charcuterie producer. In addition to producing approximately 5,000 cases per year from our 52-acre estate vineyard, we also process fruit for bulk wine and custom crush operations. We are looking for oenologically minded interns with at least one year of harvest/production experience for the 2021 harvest to work directly with the winemaking team on all aspects of wine production from September until mid-November. Shifts will be approximately 10-12 hours in duration, six days a week for the first few weeks, then transitioning to a five-day work week as harvest winds down. Intern housing is available.
Primary Responsibilities and Duties:
-Conduct preharvest analysis of fruit
-Opportunity to work with both small scale/boutique and bulk production techniques
-Receive and process fruit on a production line that has the capability to tip gondolas via mechanical hoist
-Learn to perform floatation for clarification of white and rosé musts
-Prepare and assist with inoculations and nutrient additions
-Track and monitor fermentations, perform pump overs and assist in drain and press and digging out fermenters
-Work with all other aspects of wine production, including must transfers, tank and equipment sanitation, barreling down and barrel fermentation.
-Adhere to all safety guidelines and protocols
-Minimum of one harvest worked in a production winery setting and basic understanding of the winemaking process
-Some relevant educational background. Having or working towards a degree in enology or viticulture is ideal, but other relevant sciences or work experience is also considered.
-Ability to lift 50 lbs, work long hours, perform repetitive motions, climb ladders and stairs, and work in wet and variable weather conditions.
-Positive, “can do” attitude, reliable and dependable work history
-Forklift and/or manual shift vehicle experience a plus
