We’re looking for the unique person who is interested in building out our distribution sales network on the U.S. Mainland from scratch for our boutique winery. The ideal candidate will join a convivial, small team environment comprised of our owner, winemaking team, director of sales for wine club and tasting rooms, and operations associate. The position is based out of our office space at our Los Altos Tasting Room with access to our breathtaking vineyard and winery in the Santa Cruz Mountains. The candidate will have well-established relationships with distributors, brokers, and regional and national chain accounts to build out national distribution of our artisan wines. The candidate will be responsible for developing new wholesaler relationships nationwide and managing them.
-Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
-Actively looking for new opportunities to grow sales through sales channel expansion
-Develop relationships with distributors, brokers, and regional and national chains independently using your professional relationships
-Attain sales, distribution, and profitability goals
-Conduct distributor sales meetings on multiple levels
-Develop relationships with and motivate distributor salespeople during sales meetings to open and service both on and off-premise accounts
-Communicate approved programs and marketing initiatives to distributors and assist in their implementation
-Educate salespeople and key accounts as to the unique characteristics of Byington wines, our estate vineyards, people, production methods, sustainability initiatives, appellations, and how they fit into our competitive set
-Conduct seminars, tastings, and winemaker dinners
-Write and maintain key account lists, make placements, and sales at these accounts
-Cooperate with team members in other departments to ensure the best overall results for the winery
-Leverage the skill sets of our talented team members to further sales initiatives
-Network of established nationwide wine distributors and accounts
-Bachelor’s degree preferably in business, sales, and marketing, or a related field
-At least three to five plus years of experience selling wine with another winery and/or a distributor
-Demonstrated ability to successfully achieve sales goals
-Strong communication, influence, and negotiation skills to work effectively with a variety of people and foster teamwork
-Proficiency in online business tools in order to build presentations, sell sheets, and deliver and respond to detailed correspondence
-Strong organization, reasoning, judgment, and problem-solving skills to coordinate multiple projects, resolve problems, and represent Byington
-Knowledge and enjoyment of wine and wine culture, varietals, appellations, food pairings, and more
-Drivers license with a driving record acceptable to the winery’s insurance carrier
-Willingness to travel with overnight stays as needed
-Ability to lift and carry 25 pounds
-Residence in California Bay Area
