JOB TITLE: Vineyard Manager
STATUS: Full-Time

PRIMARY FUNCTION: The Vineyard Manager is responsible for all aspects of vineyard development and specialized wine grape farming and production. The role includes overseeing vineyard design and planting, pruning, frost protection, irrigation management, weed control, chemical applications, disease and pest control, cultivation, canopy management, crop estimation, harvest, safety and compliance, and effective management of employees to optimize productive task performance

The duties for Vineyard Manager include, but are not limited to:
•  Develop and farm the highest quality vineyards in Santa Barbara County
•  Ensure effective communication and working relationships within all levels and departments of Coastal Vineyard Care Associates “CVCA”
•  Ensure effective communication with CVCA clients and prompt attention to client issues and questions
•  Work with clients to develop annual farming plans and budgets
•  Actively track financial performance throughout the year and proactively communicate and address any issues
•  Effectively hire, train, develop and manage a strong team of skilled vineyard employees
•  Ensure that employees are properly trained in CVCA policies and procedures, and that safety compliance is maintained for all work performed in accordance with OSHA, WPS and CVCA’s IIPP
•  Provide clear direction to supervisors and foreman regarding daily farming activities
•  Work closely with HR to ensure effective onboarding and offboarding of employees
•  Manage pest control activities including work order scheduling
•  Order and manage the distribution of chemicals and fertilizers, and ensure the quality and precision of applications
•  Plan, manage and coordinate all needed machinery and equipment throughout the year
•  Plan, manage and coordinate all third-party contractors and vendors
•  Evaluate vineyard problems and make recommendations that provide effective, timely and economic solutions to deliver quality wine grapes
•  Prepare annual capital expenditure and operating expense budgets, as well as monthly and/or quarterly budget performance reviews as the client requires
•  Ensure timely and accurate vineyard data collection, including, petiole sampling and crop yields
•  Work with vineyard owner and/or winemaker(s) to develop harvest schedule
•  Work nights and weekends as required throughout the year to complete responsibilities, particularly during harvest
•  Manage ad hoc projects as assigned by the owners
•  Actively support company programs and communications
•  Represent CVCA professionally within the industry and local community

•  Must be highly competent with computers, systems, and relevant software applications
•  Must have a strong work ethic with excellent planning and organizational skills
•  Must be a strong manager who demonstrates effective communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships at all levels, both internal and external to the company
•  Ability to operate all vineyard tractors and equipment
•  Ability and willingness to work extended hours during peak season/harvest
•  Ability to work in outdoors during cold and hot weather
•  Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred
•  Valid Driver’s License
•  Reliable and trustworthy

•  Degree in Viticulture, related relevant field or equivalent experience
•  Must have at least 5 years vineyard farming experience including expertise producing high quality grapes

•  The position requires intermittent and varied lengths of time spent: sitting; standing; walking on uneven surfaces; climbing stairs; bending at the waist and/or knees; reaching up, down, and laterally while sitting and/or standing; typing;
•  Good vision for computer work and hard copy reading
•  Ability to lift / carry up to 50 lbs.
