About Underground Cellar
Underground Cellar is a Y Combinator and VC-backed startup based in Napa Valley and San Francisco that is currently experiencing hyper-growth. We’ve ‘gamified’ wine sales through our addictive e-commerce platform that gives buyers a great value through “upgrades”, allowing wineries to quickly sell wine without resorting to brand-damaging discounts. Since launching in 2014, We’ve had over 750,000 bottles of wine sold through our platform, with skyrocketing growth of 600% the past year and sales eclipsing $1,000,000 per month.



What you will do and the impact you will have:
Your job is to find the best and most unique wines throughout Napa Valley and the world, so we can bring them to our members. You’ll do this by leveraging existing relationships throughout the wine industry, as well as being a wine country socialite on our dime. You’ll attend all the wine tasting events throughout Napa and San Francisco, you’ll work your own network to get intros to wineries, and you’ll even have a budget to go buy rounds of drinks at bustling bars in Napa known as popular watering holes for elite winemakers! While this is likely one of the most fun roles here at Underground Cellar, it is also a very important and serious one. As a key member of the procurement team, the Director of Winery Relations will maintain relationships with all existing and new winery partners and industry suppliers in an effort to obtain availability of the best wines for our members. Leveraging strong communication, sales, and interpersonal skills the Director of Winery Relations will utilize their persuasive sales skills to obtain hard-to-get wines for our members, score winemaker interviews, autographed bottles, and maintain a high level of organization to track all existing and prospective winery partners.

Key Responsibilities:

Utilize your existing network of winery and winemaker contacts to bring new wines to Underground Cellar members.
Persuade potential wineries to sell their wine on Underground Cellar, while negotiating attractive economics to maximize company profitability.
Visit wineries in person to build face-to-face relationships to expand our reputation and name recognition among local and regional wineries.
Partner with wineries for co-marketing opportunities on our website and social media channels, including obtaining exclusive interviews and other social content.
Maintain relationships with all existing contacts and track communications with each of them.
Utilize your strong organizational and computer skills to research and engage possible new winery partners, importers, distributors, and brokers via email, phone and in-person meetings.
Follow up on incoming requests from wineries who want to be featured on our website.
Develop and maintain a catalog of our partners wines that are available to our members.
Research industry events and develop an event calendar for events that you (and others on our team) should attend to help establish and build relationships throughout the industry.
Maintain strong relationships with existing and prospective winery partners by frequently calling and visiting their wineries.

About you:

Strong existing relationships within the wine industry
2+ years experience in the wine industry
1+ years experience with B2B sales and sales management
Proficient in Excel, Microsoft Suite, Google Suite
Solid work ethic and the ability to learn quickly
Can work with a high level of autonomy
Knows how to hustle, while still maintaining attention to detail
Resourceful with an adaptive attitude, willing to roll with the punches and experiment with new ideas.
Have easy access to our Napa Valley office and the wineries in Napa Valley
Bonus points if you have any wine certifications (CSW, WSET II+, Certified Sommelier)
