We are currently seeking highly qualified candidates for a Full-Time, Tasting Room Lead to join our tasting room team At Erath Winery in Portland, OR. Tasting room employees are the public relations ambassadors of the company. As such, tasting room personnel provide a warm welcome to all guests and provide a beyond-expectations experience. As a liaison between Ste. Michelle and the public, tasting room employees must demonstrate hospitality, a sense of integrity, efficiency, and a growing knowledge about our wines. Successful members of the tasting room team will consistently display a positive, unflappable, can-do attitude at all times while providing excellent and accommodating customer service to each and every guest that visits our winery.
What you will do:
Service Standards: Be friendly, courteous and capable of interacting with a wide variety of personalities in a professional and polite manner, with an eagerness to meet the needs of every guest. Be accommodating, upbeat and inspired to make every guest’s experience special. Must be a self-starter that works efficiently with limited direction to identify needs of the business and implement solutions effectively.
Greet all arriving guests and provide a brief summary of the winery and provide direction appropriately.
Work with Manager to maintain high level of customer service throughout the entire tasting room experience.
Keep informed on daily happenings in regard to the Tasting Room and help keep team up to speed on changes, events, promotions, and special tours/tastings.
Support daily operation for the Tasting room, including administrative and operational functions (including, but not limited to; scheduling, purchase orders, inventory, ordering, etc.)
Supervise tasting room team and act as lead manager on duty when Manager is unavailable.
Responsible for daily opening and closing procedures to include cash handling in an accurate and responsible fashion.
Conduct winery tours, tastings and events for guests of the winery.
Learn product information to assist guests with making selections and purchases.
Provide accurate information about the company/winery to visiting guests as well as over the phone.
Provide accurate information about our wine club and mailing list and encourage guests to sign up.
Assist in prospect outreach, solicitation of new business, and field sales and inquiry calls.
Operate POS/registers to sell wine, merchandise, wine club memberships and to collect wine tasting fees as needed.
Troubleshoot POS and problem orders to resolve issues effectively.
General housekeeping duties to ensure the appearance and cleanliness of the tasting room are up to or exceed standards.
Utilize proper safety and sanitation techniques at all times (i.e. hand-cart, lifting, glass handling, cleaning/sanitizing protocols etc.) in order to maintain a clean and safe work environment.
Assist with fulfillment of wine club and eCommerce orders as necessary, including; pulling, packing and processing wine orders for delivery, as well as curbside pickup if applicable.
Assist with the set-up, execution/service, and break-down of special events as requested.
Perform any other duties requested by the tasting room management team.
What you will bring:
Must be able to work various days of the week, including weekends and holidays.
This position is full time and will require a minimum of 32 hours and up to 40 hours per week.
Able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods of time.
Able and willing to work on-premise (indoors and outdoors).
3+ years of customer service experience required (retail/hospitality preferred)
Supervisory/lead experience preferred
Excellent communication skills
High level of experience with problem solving and customer resolution while remaining calm and professional
Interest in or knowledge of wine and wine industry
Ability to work in a fast-paced, changing environment
Goal orientated and able to work as part of a team
Ability to speak comfortably and audibly in front of groups
Superior knowledge of Point of Sales (POS) systems
Basic computer skills required
Must be flexible and available to work varied hours
Must be at least 21 years of age
Food Handlers Card
High School diploma or equivalent
