Winemaking Intern - Harvest 2020

Job Description:

Position is for a winemaking intern that will work directly with the vineyard manager and consulting winemaker and be a bridge between them and the winery crew.

The winery is located in Lodi and will process small, medium and large lots. Position will be starting mid July and end by the end of Nov.


•  Set-up, adjustment and operation of cellar equipment
•  Grape receiving, crushing and pressing
•  Perform sanitation in all assigned areas including facility and equipment, sterilizing casks, tanks and other equipment
•  Helps ensure wine quality is maintained by cellar team
•  Maintains equipment, cooperage and tanks in assigned area
•  Suggests measures to improve employee safety, wine quality, and/or production efficiency
•  Comply with all Safety, Housekeeping and Sanitation and Standard Operating Procedures
•  Responsible for performing a variety of cellar operations including but not limited to:
-Grape receiving activities
-Wine/must movements
-Additions to wines/musts
-Cap management practices (punch-downs/pump -overs)
-Fermentation monitoring
-Barrel activities (filling/racking/topping)
-Equipment and tank sanitation
-Field sampling
-Wine sampling and some lab work
-Other tasks as necessary


The ideal candidate is interested in gaining practical experience to support current/prior studies in winemaking, enology, viticulture, science or related degree.

•  Requires written and verbal communication skills
•  Good reading, writing and math capabilities
•  Attention to detail and commitment to the job
•  Must be quality oriented, have a positive attitude and be a self-starter
•  Must be reliable, on-time and engaged in the work
•  Ability to understand and comply with all safety-related requirements
•  Must have flexibility with scheduling, willing to work various schedules and work overtime and weekends as needed
•  Ability to lift, carry and pull up to 50 lbs. on a frequent basis; climb on and off equipment constantly throughout the day; extensive walking and
standing on cement floors, climbing stairs, bending, kneeling, reaching, pushing and pulling movements required. Working conditions will vary
between the chilled tank room and humid red barrel room as well as outside weather conditions
•  Bilingual English/Spanish a plus
