Dutton Ranch Payroll & Human Resources

Dutton Ranch is a multi- generational farming company that has been farming Wine Grapes & Apples in Sonoma County since 1964. The Payroll & Human resources person is primarily responsible for processing the company’s payroll, including payroll tax returns, workers compensation, and managing all employee benefits. It is an extremely detail oriented position as payroll demands change during the course of the year, transitioning from hourly to piece rate during the harvest season, keeping track of the average hourly wage and tracking paid & unpaid break times. Seasonal fluctuations in the number of employees can make this a demanding position. Additional duties include preparing & updating employee files, organizing, scheduling & documenting all staff safety meetings, sexual harassment education classes and other required classes.

Responsibilities include:

•  Process new employee forms & files
•  Maintain I-9 binders
•  Update legal posters and binders
•  Processing weekly payroll in QuickBooks including creating paystubs in excel, printing checks and setting up direct deposits
•  Prepare, track and accurately deposit weekly, quarterly and annual payroll taxes
•  Complete monthly workers compensation reports and work with insurance company to complete the annual audit
•  Track and pay all 401k & Roth distributions, distribute forms quarterly and prepare year end documents for administrator
•  Maintain all health insurance policies and work with insurance agent to renew policies
•  Complete workers compensation paperwork for all injured employees and coordinate Doctors’ appointments and rides to hospitals and doctors’ offices
•  Complete State of California monthly labor survey
•  Complete yearly 1095-B annually
•  Set up safety schedule for the year, working with safety trainers for classes as needed
•  Work with CPA at year-end to verify all data for tax return preparation
•  Other general office duties include answering phones, reconciling bank statements, some accounts payable and receivables.


•  Bilingual in Spanish required
•  Highly organized with an acute attention to detail and multi-task oriented
•  Advanced QuickBooks and Excel knowledge required
•  2-3 years accounting and Human Resources experience
•  Ability to work in a small, busy office
•  Strong self-management and organizational skills
•  Flexibility in schedule as seasonal work demands
•  Ability to work in a constantly changing environment

This is a full time Position with benefits. A flex work schedule can be accommodated after harvest between November and August.
