Stone Tower Winery is seeking two interns for the 2020 harvest, one being in the cellar and the other being a lab/cellar flex position. We are a family-owned winery in Leesburg, Virginia, focusing on premium wines made from estate-grown fruit and trusted growers throughout the state. Our focus is on Bordeaux varietals and other vinifera showing well in Virginia.
We are seeking detail-oriented and reliable individuals that have a positive attitude, strong work ethic, and a good sense of humor. This opportunity is great for someone who wants exposure to all aspects of viticulture and winemaking using modern equipment and old-world techniques.
Cellar Duties include, but are not limited to:
Cleaning and sanitation
Grape processing and equipment operation
Pumpovers and punchdowns
Additions and inoculations as directed
Barrel work such as filling, topping, stirring
Other projects as directed
Lab/Cellar Flex Position:
Daily fermentation monitoring (SG and temp.)
Maturity analysis (pH, TA, Brix, SG)
Enzymatic analysis (G/F, Malic, YAN)
Cleaning and maintenance of lab and equipment
Chemical preparation and maintenance
All cellar duties listed above as needed
Ability to lift 50 pounds
Ability to climb stairs/ladders
Walk, stand, bend, kneel for long periods
Previous harvest experience desired (a high interest in winemaking is great, too)
Lab Position: Scientific background or significant lab experience and comfortable with metric system.
Willing to work varying shifts and long hours
Desire to learn
Reliable transportation and valid drivers license
Effective communication skills
The position will begin in late August and run through October. Exact dates are flexible and subject to change as harvest progresses.
