The Lab Manager is responsible for the operation of the A to Z laboratory, ensuring the safety and functionality of lab equipment and operations. This position is responsible to prioritize the laboratory workload and oversee all tests and analyses, including set-up, data gathering and communication before and after technical tastings and trials. This leader emphasizes quality and excellence, ensuring accuracy and rigor of results. The Lab Manager supervises, develops and retains laboratory staff, ensuring a standard of excellence in clear, timely communication, efficiency and results across all laboratory operations.
• B.S. in chemistry or related field preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Minimum of 5 years of laboratory experience and 3 years of supervisory experience desired
• Systems: proficiency with database entry and reporting; Microsoft Office suite, including Excel, required; experience with Vintrace a plus
The successful Lab Manager brings a high level of ownership, rigor, initiative and curiosity to the role, and encourages the same from the laboratory team. Prior wine industry experience, or food and beverage lab experience, will translate particularly well to this position. This position requires a technical expert with a strong understanding of the science, who also has the ability and willingness to be hands-on in all aspects of lab work. The Lab Manager focuses the laboratory team and function on providing technical support and insights to meet the winemaking goals of a diverse team, which demands a unique blend of rigor and flexibility. The role requires exceptional organizational and communication skills. The Lab Manager must balance and prioritize the needs of stakeholders and effectively interpret and communicate results and recommendations. The successful Lab Manager takes a flexible approach to management of the team and function, excited by the opportunity to manage varying levels of demand in lab work, staffing and training, and research and development, while driving consistency and continuous improvement in performance and quality.
