The tasting room is Iris Vineyards’ window to the public. Tasting Room Associates conduct the tasting and sale of wine and non-wine products while providing an exceptional customer experience to each visitor. This position requires excellent communication skills with management, customers, and other associates as well as the ability to converse easily with many people from diverse backgrounds. TRAs are also responsible for assisting with special events held both onsite and offsite and includes weekends and some holidays.
Conduct sales and provide hospitality in the tasting room. Represent Iris Vineyards professionally and educate guests on wines, vineyards and winery history. Interact with guests in a warm, professional, and enthusiastic manner. Maintain an inviting and clean environment (indoor and outdoor areas & restroom.) Stock merchandise and supplies as needed. Perform opening and closing procedures. Help coordinate TR and Wine Club events. Process phone orders and wine shipping orders. Report TR equipment functionality and supply levels to manager. Event duties: set up/take down tables/chairs, act as ‘runner’ between inside and outside areas. Maintain confidential and/or proprietary information. Perform other duties as assigned. Follow all appropriate policies and safety procedures. Reports directly to the Tasting Room Manager. Attendance and punctuality are essential functions of this position.
Standing and walking on stone, cement, tile and gravel with daily climbing of stairs. Some sitting (padded swivel office chair, car seat.) Repetitive use of hands and wrists to open wine bottles, pour wine and operate POS system. Lifting/carrying average weight frequently 40 lbs. Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Pushing/pulling average weight frequently 50 lbs.
Must adhere to all policies and procedures of the company, including safety procedures. Exposed to wine production equipment noise, glass bottles and general office noise. Visually exposed to computer screens and fluorescent lighting. Must be able to stand for long periods of time, walk, reach with hands and arms, taste and smell.
Past winery tasting room experience a plus, but not required. Proficient in POS systems required 2 years in hospitality or sales with good knowledge of wines. Knowledge of wine production and/or experience in tasting room sales a plus. Read, write, and speak English fluently. May need valid driver license with acceptable driving record. Must possess or be able to obtain OLCC alcohol servers permit and food handler’s permit. Must pass criminal background check.
