DTC MANAGER

Donkey & Goat was created in 2004 by Tracey & Jared Brandt, (the wife & husband proprietor/winemakers) who are two of the natural wine pioneers in America. We opened our Tasting Room in late 2011 with a plank of wood atop 2 barrels and no staff beyond the owners. Eight years later we operate a bustling urban Tasting Room in Berkeley’s Gilman District within our working winery that continues to grow every year. We started a wine club in August 2012 in similar fashion and seven years later we have an active, loyal, growing wine club that is 63% local!

We regularly operate our Tasting Room Friday - Sunday from 1-6pm. We offer tastings, flights, glasses and snacks in our winery and urban yard that includes a bocce court, picnic tables and more. We also offer many reserved experiences that do happen outside of regular hours on occasion. Plus, we rent our space for private events and host our own Wine Club events and more. For all of these experiences we see our local members frequently enjoying the perks of membership and we regularly host remote members while visiting the Bay Area. This position will have a regular schedule of Monday-Friday but there are 6-8 weekend events a year that will be required (release parties, member parties, etc).

Candidates we interview will:
Understand customer service and prioritize ensuring a VIP experience is executed for all interactions with members
Have a deep understanding and appreciation for the importance of executing an authentic customer experience that always strives to over deliver.
Have a clear vision of the multitude of interactions that comprise the customer experience. From web site to voice mail greeting to packaging to the bathroom to the wine label to the dust on the shelf to social media posts, outbound email campaigns and our auto responses to emails and every single touch with our customers. It all matters.
Have a deep understanding of marketing and how to to execute multi faceted marketing plans to meet business objectives for revenue, customer acquisition and customer loyalty while testing, refining, examining ROI, and continually optimize as we move forward.
Be a smart and thoughtful individual that can plan and execute strategic communications across platforms that includes email, social, web site, Tasting Room menus, signage in the Tasting Room and more.
Take pride in working for a small, owner operated winery where everyone is expected to roll up their sleeves and get the days work done regardless of whether it falls exactly in your wheelhouse (we did not go to college to learn how to replace the garbage bag either but we sure do value it being done by whomever empties the trash)
Have a Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent education
Have exceptional written and verbal communication skills
Have a minimum of four (4) years’ experience in marketing and ideal candidates will have some or all of that experience in the wine or food industry.
Have demonstrated skills and history with social media, including Instagram, Facebook, Yelp, Pinterest and more
Be proficient in the technologies we use to run our business or willing to learn quickly:
Microsoft Office applications
Google cloud applications (and understand the difference from Microsoft)
Photo editing software (like photoshop)
Mail Chimp
Social Media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter
Google Directory
Drop Box

Qualifications we are looking for:
Team players who can lead and follow with grace and good humor while under pressure
Efficient and detail oriented with exceptional organizational skills and ability to delegate and manage projects (including delegating to the owners when needed to meet deadlines)
Exceptional problem-solving capabilities (try first, ask second)
Ability to multitask and meet deadlines in a fast paced environment
Ability to adapt, learn, and contribute in a constantly changing environment
Passion for wine and hopefully for natural wine
Basic understanding of how wine is made
The ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds on a repeated basis
A positive attitude in customer interactions and with co-workers.
Goal oriented and numbers driven.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO

WINE CLUB
Designing and executing exceptional customer service to members and guests via phone, email and in person.
Help design and own implementation of our membership growth and retention strategy, including coordination with Tasting Room Manager
With owners, plan and execute Member events
Manage member experiences, winery visits/tours, and tastings with support from our Tasting Room staff and Marketing Assistant.
Working with owners, plan and execute 4 wine releases each year

MARKETING
Working with owners, plan and execute 4 wine releases each year
Organizing and supervising timely and accurate shipments
Use Microsoft Excel and/or google sheets for reporting and analytics
Generate content that supports our brand and customer experience and has consideration for tone, messaging goals, CTA and campaign objectives
Manage online campaign to meet winery objectives
Manage SEO efforts
Regular engagement, supporting brand, customer experience and campaign objectives on social media platforms and encourage fan engagement by reaching out to key influencers within the digital space
Maintain the web site to ensure we are current and supporting messaging objectives, release objectives and offering bundles and specials to increase sales
Ensure the Tasting Room is in synch and supporting releases, campaigns, sales goals, etc via messaging and and offers on menus, displays, signage, spiffs for staff, etc

Compensation is a base salary plus a generous annual bonus potential.
