Human Resources and Safety Specialist

Job Description:

SUMMARY: Partner with the Director of Human Resources to strategically and operationally support the goals of the organization.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

HR (60%)
•  Assists with administration of company-wide human resources policies, procedures, and practices in accordance with stated corporate objectives and federal and state legal requirements.
•  Coordinates programs to attract qualified candidates through the design and placement of position announcements, advertising, and/or participation in job fairs in addition to candidate follow-up.
•  Assists Director of Human Resources in the development of job descriptions for all positions and maintains them for accuracy.
•  Responds to EDD benefit audits, unemployment claims and employment verification inquiries.
•  Assists in tasks related to, hiring, new hire set-up, new hire including but not limited to processing change of status forms and job requisitions.
•  Assists Director of Human Resources with annual performance review process.
•  Ensures compliance with federal, state, and city required reporting and postings.
•  Works closely with the Director of Human Resources to help administer all benefit insurance plans, employee assistance program, 401(k), flex spending, disability, and leaves of absence.
•  Assists with the management of a comprehensive Health and Safety program contributing to the general goal of a safe and healthy environment for employees.
•  Administers workers’ compensation claims process, including responding to workplace injuries, including investigation of accidents, reports, and claim management.

Safety (40%)
•  Assists with the management of a comprehensive Health and Safety program contributing to the general goal of a safe and healthy environment for employees.

•  Updates annual OSHA 300 log and maintain records.
•  Initiate, develop and maintain policies and procedures that address key safety issues and statutory requirements , including the Injury and Illness Prevention Program, PPE’s, lockout/tag out, confined space, hearing protection program, etc.
•  Assists with the development and implementation of safety training programs and job safety analyses.
•  Assists with determining corrective behavior for potential safety problems by reviewing formal reports from supervisory and management personnel and collaborating to determine solutions and prevention of future accidents and incidents.
•  Participates in quarterly claim reviews with the Worker’s Compensation Insurance Carrier, Insurance Brokers, and other members of management.
•  Ensures a proactive approach to accident prevention by training and advising management and employees on all safety issues.
•  Maintains expertise on current industrial and agricultural safety issues through ongoing literature and attendance at relevant seminars and meetings.
•  Compiles statistical information on accidents, injuries and losses. Analyze trends and consult with Director to determine priorities. Develop strategy to optimally address the Company’s needs.
•  Maintains and monitors list of company drivers for Insurance carrier and internal monitoring system.
•  Works on special projects as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

•  Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Environmental Health & Safety or equivalent experience and education
•  3-5 years in an HR or Safety Coordinator role
•  Proven leadership and business acumen skills
•  Working knowledge of safety codes, Cal-OSHA, Fed OSHA and other regulatory agencies
•  Proficient Microsoft Office Skills
•  Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
•  Ability to manage priorities and workflow.
•  Strong interpersonal skills.
•  Ability to deal effectively with a diversity of individuals at all organizational levels.
•  Good judgement with the ability to make timely and sound decisions.
•  Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
•  Creative, flexible, and innovative team player.
•  Commitment to excellence and high standards.
•  Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
•  Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm.
•  Bilingual skills a plus.
•  Travel required to multiple locations
•  Must have a valid driver’s license and clean Motor Vehicle Report

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
•  Full body mobility: Ability to stand, walk, sit, climb stairs, balance and kneel
•  Lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
•  Work environment in both indoors and outdoors, including all weather conditions
