JOB SUMMARY

The Director of Quality Services continually provides value added direction to The Wine Group through the Quality Services department, winery labs across TWG, and other resources within and external to the TWG family. In this role you will develop both short-term and long-term strategies providing direction on the day to day execution of the TWG Quality Services department. You will champion quality and food safety to ensure TWG products are safe, comply with regulatory requirements, and meet or exceed customer and consumer expectations. You will identify and drive process standardization through best practices, new technology and methodologies, and identifying opportunities that eliminate waste and mitigate risk to the company and consumers. You will proactively build strong business relationships, both internally and externally and serve as a resource and subject matter expert on aspects of product quality, specifications, and food safety. You will build and led the Quality Services team to meet a wide range of ever-expanding departmental responsibilities and to provide professional growth opportunities to the team members that also benefits TWG. You will develop and manage a budget that identifies growth opportunities yet remains cost mindful.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

Champion quality and food safety for consistency and sustainability:
* Drive standardization on all quality aspects from grape/wine chemistry, to finished package quality to food safety across all facilities and levels within TWG
* Collaborate with colleagues throughout the organization to achieve and maintain an accurate and consistent flow of information and execution of quality processes and procedures
* Fully utilize and optimize the Quality Services department as TWG's primary resource for lab instrumentation and analytical method development
* Develop and implement SOPs, processes, and training across all TWG labs for analytical chemistry
* At all TWG packaging sites, implement and develop systems that ensure compliance with all food safety, quality, and legal requirements to be performed by operations, such as sanitation validation, dissolved oxygen management, package quality, and any other value-added checks, verification, validation, and associated records
* Record, retain, be prepared to report on any data collected or retained by Quality Services
* Make data driven recommendations and decisions that directly impact the quality of our products such as establishing shelf-life specifications for Bag-in-box, can and tetra products

Quality Services - focused on Customer Service:
* Provide tools and strategies, and set expectations ensuring timely and accurate data and/or information sharing, as well as recommendations to all customers internal and external covering processes from grape to glass, vineyard to consumer. Customers include winemaking, operations, logistics, supply chain, material vendors, co-packers, customer service, distributors, sales marketing, and any department or person that can utilize the knowledge and skill of Quality Services for the betterment of TWG and the consumer
* Develop and provide TWG responses to internal and external inquiries on nutrition, gluten, vegan standard compliance, allergens, consumer complaints, or any topic requiring the perspective of Quality Services
* Generate and provide TWG Nutritional information for all products produced, imported or purchased

Risk Mitigation:
* Drive robust and efficient detainment, evaluation, and rework processes of non-conforming finished goods to enhance the customer and consumer experience as well as minimize risk to the company
* Oversee generation of product destruction orders
* Own and lead the TWG product market withdrawal and recall process
* Actively research current and upcoming wine and package regulatory changes/updates, working to anticipate potential future risks. Communicate findings to senior leadership and make recommendations to take steps to mitigate. These include FSMA, FDA, USDA, OIV, LCBO, DTSC, State Regulations, etc. Participate in Wine institute working groups as appropriate

Specification Development:
* Provide and validate case and pallet sizes, weights, configurations in JDE for internal and external customers- critical to cost management for transportation
* Develop and manage the finished product quality specifications and response plans for all manufacturing sites
* Set and manage the product quality and package compliance information as part of the Product Data Management corporate process and for the daily product specification work orders (GI Sheets) that drive the production at all bottling facilities including co-packers
* Lead and participate in the Shelf-life evaluation process of finished goods

Lead Quality Services Team:
* Hire, manage and develop team members
+ Identify high performing lab managers and technicians; mentor and encourage their development and growth
+ Provide regular and ongoing feedback and direction to the Quality Services Management Team, which includes TWG's Food Safety Systems Manager, Senior Quality Manager and Quality Services Process Manager
* Provide corporate package material design recommendations, validation and approval, i.e. review and sign off on new case CADs for sizing and determining label placement specifications based on glass, marketing desires, operational constraint
