We are looking for a qualified Head of Finance interested in having a “seat at the table” within a dynamic and evolving company. Working closely with ownership and internal teams, this new position will be responsible for the finance, accounting, operations and HR functions. This will be a pivotal role with a unique opportunity to help shape the next generation of Handley Cellars. In the short term, the Head of Finance will develop and implement policies, procedures, and systems to creatively improve accounting and operations processes. Long term success in this role means working closely with the Proprietor to build the new vision for Handley Cellars through the resourceful use of existing assets and the creation of diversified enterprises within the company.

Specifically, your role would include the following functions/duties:
Finance/Accounting Functions:
•  Develop cost savings initiatives and policies to improve efficiency
•  Prepare cost of goods review, raw material, and production forecasts
•  Supervise preparation of monthly financial statements, including P&L, cash flow and balance sheet in compliance with GAAP
•  Supervise process of accounts payable and accounts receivable
•  Perform an analytical review of monthly operating results to ensure accurate accounting records and to identify trends and/or operating issues; Communicate results and recommendations to leadership team
•  Perform book to physical inventory reconciliations monthly
•  Prepare work papers supporting the annual inventory costing and additional information necessary for the tax return preparation by outside CPA firm
•  Lead preparation of the annual budget and utilize the budget to measure against actual results during the year.

Human Resource Functions:
•  Oversee and work with outside HR consultant on all HR processes
•  Be a catalyst for developing and reporting key metrics for the company
•  Develop and oversee the annual review process for all employees
•  Supervise the semi-monthly payroll and the maintenance of payroll records (401K plans, health savings accounts, employee files)

Operations Functions:
•  Implement, document, and maintain internal controls to mitigate risk through separation of duties
•  Identify and make recommendations to management with regard to improvements in operations which would increase efficiency, reduce costs, or promote company values
•  Conduct annual vendor reviews to ensure service and product providers offer optimum value
•  Work closely with compliance providers, maintain company federal and state licensing and bonds

Qualifications:
•  Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance, CPA certification preferred but not required
•  Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting experience and 2 years in a management role
•  Advanced skills with Microsoft Office required, particularly Outlook and Excel
•  Shares company values of integrity, respect, value creation, compliance, customer focus

Prefer candidates with the following:
•  Accounting and/or operational experience in the wine industry
•  Experience with retail POS systems and website operations
•  Experience with AMS and ShipCompliant software systems
•  Conversational skills in Spanish language

Other Skills:
•  Highly accurate, organized, and detail oriented, with strong multi-tasking and time management skills
•  Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills, including ability to articulate
recommendations in a concise and timely manner to internal team and external partners
•  Ability to work in a team environment and perform duties and responsibilities in a manner
consistent with the company’s policies
