Controller / Accounting Manager

Job Description:

Scope:
The Controller / Accounting Manager will serve as the lead for all financial reporting and accounting activities for a premium winery and vineyard operation. This position performs all aspects of the accounting operations for the company, from vineyard production to retail sales. A professional financial manager, this person will be a self-starter who is highly organized with strong detail orientation and unwavering integrity. This position reports directly to the Company Principals.

Job Responsibilities:
•  Perform month-end close tasks including all recurring and manual journal entries
•  Prepares all monthly financial reports; financial and sales
•  Prepares quarterly sales/use tax returns
•  Fixed asset accounting and property tax questionnaires
•  Processes payroll for all employees; coordinates with outside payroll service
•  Manage confidential personnel folders, assist in preparation of offer letters, verify I-9 information, provide information to payroll service
•  Processes all AP invoices for payment; insures proper coding and allocations
•  Works closely with the outside CPA firm on costing of grapes, bulk wine and case goods.
•  Maintains cash flow forecasts and prepares monthly cash flow reports
•  Tracks and records weigh tag data during harvest; invoices grape sales
•  Communicates with outside vendors, credit applications and issues 1099’s
•  Preparation of annual budgets
•  Tracks, maintains and reconciles bulk wine and case goods inventory; inbound and outbound on monthly basis for all storage locations
•  Assigns and maintains all SKU tracking numbers; responsible for system set-up
•  Coordinates with outside compliance service for licenses, COLA’s, state label registrations and monthly reporting
•  Point of contact for order processing; interface with brokers and wholesalers
•  Manages wholesale/retail order fulfillment; invoices wholesale and Direct to Trade customers and manages AR.
•  Maintains pricing grids, coordinating with V.P. Sales
•  Maintains insurance register; coordinates asset additions with insurance brokers
•  Manages Worker’s Comp Policy and annual audit
•  Communicates with CPA firm and bankers as needed
•  Main point of contact for IT service providers, networks and data back-up

Education/Experience/Skills
•  Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or related discipline
•  Minimum of 4 – 6 years of solid general ledger accounting experience
•  Solid knowledge and experience in winery production cost accounting
•  Farming/agriculture operation accounting experience desirable
•  Excellent analytical, problem solving and research skills
•  Highly collaborative and team oriented
•  Attention to detail and accuracy, with a high level of integrity
•  Excellent organizational, verbal and written communication skills
•  Proficient in QuickBooks and MS Office including Excel, Word and Outlook
