Enologist (Permanent, Full Time)

Job Description:

POSITION OVERVIEW: Brittan Vineyards and Brittan Consulting are currently seeking an experienced, industrious and good-humored enologist to join our small team. Located in downtown McMinnville, we craft thoughtful, site-expressive Pinot noir and Chardonnay from carefully farmed, acclaimed vineyards in a modern winemaking facility. We believe that great wine is made with intent, thoughtfulness and vigilance. Candidates should be practiced and comfortable in the laboratory and cellar and have a strong aptitude for detail-oriented data management and recordkeeping. This is a full time, hourly, overtime-eligible position with medical benefits, paid vacation, sick leave and paid holidays.

•  Enter, update and maintain accurate winemaking records
•  Maintain a clean, organized, well-stocked laboratory
•  Carry out standard laboratory analyses: pH, TA, SO2, enzymatic
•  Set up benchtop trials as directed
•  Participate in technical wine tastings
•  Collect composite samples for analysis and tasting
•  Tasting organization, setup and cleanup
•  Operate standard winery equipment safely and professionally
•  Fill, top, rack, clean, organize and maintain barrels as required
•  Complete additions and inoculations in juice and wine
•  Track ferments; collect, input and manage harvest data
•  Assist seasonal interns in understanding and executing winery protocols and work orders

Minimum of two to three years of experience in wine production including the laboratory; full-time experience preferred, degree in related field required.

•  Skilled at all winery lab operations
•  Cellar experience preferred
•  Excellent verbal and written communication skills
•  Computer and data management skills
•  Ability to adapt effectively to changing situations

•  Ability to work irregular shifts, long hours and weekends, when required
•  Ability to lift up to 55 lbs
•  Ability to drag wine hoses, climb ladders and stairs and work at elevated heights

•  Have or able to obtain Oregon driver’s license
•  Have or able to obtain forklift certification
