JOB TITLE: Vineyard Manager - Iris Vineyards

SUMMARY: The Vineyard Manager collaborates with the winemaker, management and ownership on fruit and vineyard parameters and objectives and is responsible for the operational and financial goals, policies and procedures of the vineyard and farm with broad authority and responsibility to achieve goals. Directly responsible for day to day management of the vineyard operation, through direct personal work and the supervision of others, including timely and cost-effective completion of typical vineyard tasks per the schedule agreed with the farm owner, frost protection measures, crop estimation, maintenance and repair of equipment, vineyard construction and development. Administrative, Human Resources and Payroll support are provided by InnSight Hotel Management Group, Inc. Iris has a dedicated bookkeeper/compliance technician. This position reports directly to Richard Boyles, farm owner and is required to live on Chalice/Iris Vineyards property.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Chalice Vineyards, LLC

Operations - This position is expected to implement an effective fungicide spray program, implement canopy management measures in timely manner, maintain and calibrate air blast and herbicide spray equipment, monitor vine and soil nutrition and make inputs as needed, appropriately manage vineyard floor vegetation. Supervisory responsibilities include recruiting, hiring, scheduling, disciplinary interactions, evaluation, development, and/or termination of direct reports as needed, as well as responsibility for implementation of Iris/InnSight culture, personnel policies and work rules, with the support of Human Resources. Purchase and maintain appropriate supplies, selecting vendors for materials used in vineyard operation. Keep estate roads in good condition and the approaches to the tasting room presentable in support of garnering strong tasting room sales. Maintain the grass/dirt road access system on the estate, supporting the chestnut plantings and interfacing with cattle tenants. Communicate openly and honestly with ownership and staff. Protect and maintain confidential/proprietary information. Follow all appropriate laws, policies and ensure that applicable workplace safety protocols are in place. Perform other duties as assigned. Attendance and punctuality are essential functions of this position.

Financial Results - directly responsible to achieve financial results and meet or exceed goals established by the operating budget and capital budget.

Budget Development - in cooperation with the farm owner, develop operating and capital budgets prior to the start of each new fiscal year.

Goals, Policies and Procedures - provide input in collaboration with the owner for the development of an operating philosophy for the vineyard, as well as appropriate goals, policies and procedures. Has chief responsibility for implementing the same upon adoption by ownership.

Special Projects – as assigned by the farm owner, including but not limited to planning and developing new vineyard blocks, overseeing custom crush of vineyard fruit, investigation and pursuit of winery development and licensing and participation in staff education, tastings, and special events as needed.

Boyles Farm

Projects and tasks as assigned by farm owner, including but not limited to construction projects, reforestation projects, road and pathway maintenance projects and fencing maintenance.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Navigation of uneven outdoor terrain such as steep inclines and outbuildings as needed for evaluation of estate and off-site vineyards. Exposure to diverse types of weather. Expect a fluctuating schedule and irregular hours during peak times or bad weather. Ability to manipulate and operate farming equipment, vehicle controls, computer and phone. Must be able to work for long periods of time. Motions required for in and out of vehicles including tractors and other farm equipment. Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Pushing/pulling average weight frequently 150 lbs.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Primarily outdoor environment with some indoor office/administrative work. Exposed to weather and temperature extremes, dust, dirt, insects and wildlife. Exposed to farm equipment noise and vibration. Exposed to computer screens and fluorescent lighting. Must adhere to all policies and procedures of the company, including safety procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum three years’ experience in vineyard management and/or grower relations. This position is required to live on Chalice/Iris Vineyards property – separate residential agreement document will be provided. Private Pesticide Applicator’s a plus. Demonstrated knowledge of farm equipment operation, maintenance and minor repairs. Must possess or be able to obtain forklift operation certification. This position requires proficient verbal and written communication skills in English; Spanish language skills a plus but not essential. Must possess a valid driver license with acceptable driving record and the ability to operate truck & trailer combinations up to 26,000# GVW. Ability to operate a manual transmission. Possess strong organization and time management skills. Ability to follow through on projects. Ability to communicate in a confident, knowledgeable and friendly manner. Ability to work independently as well as a member of a team and demonstrated ability to perform duties with minimal supervision. Flexibility in scheduling is required. Ability to manage oneself and direct reports according to employment, safety, and health laws. Must pass criminal background check.
