Troon Vineyard, a 7,500 case estate winery in Oregon’s Applegate Valley, is seeking an experienced assistant winemaker. Troon Vineyard follows a minimalist, non-interventional philosophy of winemaking using only native yeasts and no additives. We are an estate winery dedicated to Italian and southern French varieties and have just transitioned to biodynamic agriculture. This position will report directly to veteran winemaker Steve Hall.
This position will support the winemaker in vineyard and winery operations and must be able to work with the vineyard crew in occasional viticultural operations (especially leafing, green drop). Cellar duties will include topping, racking, bottling and cleaning. Inventory and work order control using InnoVint software and hardcopy cellar records will be a major responsibility so strong computer skills are a must. Lab work duties include FSO2 by vac, pH and Brix, temperature measurements during harvest. Harvest work will also require the ability to tread grapes in half ton bins and punch down 1 and 1.5 ton fermentation bins. Work schedules during harvest are seven days a week. This position requires significant physical work on rugged vineyard terrain, the ability to stand for extended periods and to work outside in various weather conditions.
A degree in enology is a plus, but solid experience and a background in food science, chemistry or biology will also be considered. The successful candidate will have two or more years of cellar and lab experience, preferably in Oregon.
Only applications submitted by email will be considered. No phone calls.
Compensation will include health insurance and paid vacation time.
