Job Description:

The job of the Assistant Manager is to assist in running the store, creating an environment where products are highlighted in eye-appealing displays; customers and employees can expand their knowledge of wine/other products; and employees are going above and beyond to exceed expectations and provide incredible customer service.

Providing Incredible, Knowledge Based Service
Ensure every customer is given incredible customer service and make exceptions to policies as appropriate
Lead employees by example to provide incredible customer service; proactively approach customers on the sales floor, make recommendations for food and wine pairings, help them locate items and answer any questions about products or services offered
Seek to educate self and further an understanding of wine and the wine industry, share acquired knowledge with employees to ensure they are educated on the products available and have a solid understanding of wine to better assist customers
Support Store Manager with managing a weekly schedule that ensures incredible service to the customers through all areas of the store, including service, merchandising and receiving areas
Build and maintain relationships with vendors
Understand consumer trends and product movement, including seasonal influences, use this knowledge to accurately forecast needs and order while maintaining Simplification practices
Maintain the overall appearance of the store; ensure products levels are sustained and products are well-merchandised in innovative and eye-appealing displays that reflect featured items and highlight seasonal wow items, best value items, with the aim of promoting products and driving sales

Ensuring High Quality Products & Ingredients
Assist with differentiating store as a destination in the local and national marketplace by offering the finest wines/other products

What skills, learnings, and experiences are required?
Proficient in Windows based software including Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word)
Customer Service experience, preferable in a food retail, grocery, restaurant, retail or liquor store setting
Ability to create a one-of-a-kind shopping experience for customers and ensure they are always provided the highest quality products and services
Developing others by providing encouragement to folks to take on tasks that challenge them and align with their personal career goals while holding frequent development discussions using performance and development tools to coach employees who need help and further development
Demonstrating an ability to manage others by working with employees to set and achieve goals, rewarding performance while exercising courage when providing honest, timely, and actionable feedback
Control inventory levels and expenses such as payroll and shrink to impact bottom-line contribution (profit) for the department/store
Work towards continuous improvement to encourage change; find ways to increase profitability and productivity; and improve processes, products & customer service in the department/store
Use data analysis, wisdom, experience, judgment, and past actions as well as input from other sources for decision making, always considering the impact on customers, sales and contribution (profit)
Practice proper planning and staffing techniques which include managing time and resources
Maintain a safety focus by ensuring safety standards are followed, teaching safety practices to employees, looking for ways to improve safety, solving safety problems, and looking for ways to exceed safety standards and reduce risk potential
Practice proper ordering techniques to complete orders by deadlines and participate in inventory process to ensure items are available to support merchandising programs and product promotions
Exhibit merchandising skills by attractively displaying products considering seasonality, cross-merchandising opportunities with the aim of educating and enticing customers
Assist with meal preparation and planning by helping to complete food/wine pairings

What skills, learnings, and experiences are preferred and will set me apart?
Managerial/supervisory experience
Knowledge of, passion for and experience working with wine
Knowledge of and experience with food and wine pairings

Work environment: Work involves continuous interaction with customers and co-workers in a fast-paced environment
Typical motions include repetitive hand and arm movements, bending and reaching
Will be required to spend time on his or her feet and stand or walk without a break for up to 4 hours
May be exposed to various allergens (things that may cause an allergic reaction)
The average weight range of items lifted is 5-40 pounds with a maximum weight lifted of 50 pounds occasionally
