We are currently looking for a Winemaking Assistant / Cellar Master.
Work closely with winemaker to perform duties and activities related to harvesting, processing, fermenting, filtering, bottling and inventory of all wines for Lost Oak Winery.
Candidate must be able to work independently, pay attention to details, and must have an earnest desire to understand winemaking principles. Must be able to understand and perform tests measuring different chemistry values of grapes and wine and to make chemical additions to juice and wine as directed by the winemaker. Work with other employees as needed for tours, tastings, wine dinners, and off-site events.
Position is hourly. Position is subject to seasonal fluctuations, longer days during peak harvest season, shorter days during winter.

Interrelationships: Mainly work with winemaker and owner. Some interaction with tasting room employees.
Responsibilities and Authorities
Work with winemaker and owner to produce top quality wines for Lost Oak Winery.
Knowledge of basic winemaking principles.
Understands basic enology principles.
Performs juice and wine chemistry measurements such as free SO2, pH, Titratable Acidity, paper chromatography, and other tests as required.
Understands basic winery hygiene and sanitation. Cleans and organizes all winery equipment and testing apparatus. Cleans floors, tank exteriors, walls, sinks, tables, and maintains orderly placement of all accessories.
Knows and understands the operation of all winery equipment including pumps, presses, stemmer/crusher, and analytical equipment.
Works with winemaker to keep up-to-date records on all wines in production or already produced.
Inventory and Order all materials prior to bottling, including but not limited to bottles, corks, capsules, labels, chemicals, filters.
Maintain monthly inventory of all finished and bulk wines.
Evaluates situations with juice or wine and makes recommendations to the winemaker for further processes.
Conducts tours and tastings for winery customers. Represent winery in various situations where wine knowledge is needed.
Understands the basics of oak barrel aging, storage and maintenance.
Understanding of basic wine fining agents and their use. Works closely with winemaker on fining and clarifying juice and wine.
Assist in ensuring adequate help is staffed during harvest season, truck deliveries and bottling.
Top barrels, clean tanks, hoses, and other winemaking equipment.
Ambassador of Lost Oak Winery in all situations.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions
Ability to lift 50 lbs.
Ability to push heavy wheeled equipment.
Ability to climb and work on ladders.
Ability to drive/operate forklift.
Will work in inclement weather, cold and hot.
Ability to work long hours during harvest season or as needed.
