Job Description:

SUMMARY
Cellar worker will be a central part of our winemaking team performing various work assignments to include: racking, pumping, clarifying and blending of juice and wine; Operate and care for filters, pumps, presses, hoses and other cellar equipment; handle shipping and receiving of every thing from cases of wine to tanker trucks; perform sanitation of cellar equipment including casks and tanks; check temperature of tanks during fermentation, stabilization and storage.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following;
•  With little direct supervision complete work assignment and work orders received from Winemaker, Asst. Winemaker and Cellar Master.
•  Prepare wine batches for bottling.
•  Perform necessary volume calculations for wine blending and wine movements.
•  Prepare wine batches for bottling.
•  Transfer, rack, filter, and blend wines as needed.
•  Mix tanks as needed.
•  Gas head space on partial tanks on a weekly basis.
•  Make chemical and yeast additions to wine and juice as needed.
•  Responsible for sanitation of cellar area equipment and tanks.
•  Sample tanks as needed.
•  Report and monitor all wine inventory.
•  Keep inventory of cellar supplies. Request orders as needed.
•  Monitor temperature of wine tanks.
•  Other duties may be assigned.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES
•  Assist in setup and cleanup activities, including cleaning of labeler parts, hosing down floors, and storing packaging materials.
•  Perform wine barrel work.
•  Operate forklift as needed.
•  Participate in seasonal harvest-related work as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

•  High school diploma or GED.
•  Must have good arithmetic skills.
•  Must be able to communicate effectively in English, written and spoken.
•  Min. 2 years wine cellar experience.
•  Must have complete knowledge of the operation and proper application of cellar equipment:
•  Filter operation: pressure leaf, pad type lees, and membrane filters.
•  Pump operation: centrifugal, air-diaphragm, rotary vane (Waukeshaw), Bulldog’s pup.
•  Understanding of standard sanitation practices for cellar equipment and bottling line.
•  Knowledge of common cellar chemicals and how to use them safely and correctly.
•  Able to work with others and/or independently.
•  Valid California driver’s license with good driving record
•  Ability to lift 60lbs and walk on uneven surfaces.
