SUMMARY: This is a Tasting Room Host position offering part-time hours on weekends, some weekdays, and occasional holidays. We offer competitive wages and wine club bonuses. This position is the champion of customer service in creating the perfect balance of education and good times.
About us:
We are a family owned and operated winery located in Sebastopol in the Russian River Valley appellation of Sonoma County. We have been farming in this region for over 50 years and grow some of the highest quality wine grapes in Sonoma County. Our tasting room and winemaking facility are located in the middle of one of our Chardonnay vineyards, creating the ultimate guest experience.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
• Provide the first line of communication with the customer by greeting, directing and answering questions regarding our wines, merchandise, history and facility. Communicate in a knowledgeable, professional and gracious manner that is consistent with the mission of Dutton Estate Winery.
• Serve samples of wine, along with sharing appropriate information concerning the wines to customers in both individual and group settings.
• Promote the sale of wine products sold in the tasting room, and pursue sales opportunities presented by contact with guests.
• Promote the wine club and process sign-ups.
• Provide Tour and Large Group tasting experiences.
• Collaborate effectively with team members, contribute to a positive work environment, and support team goals and objectives.
• Ability to prioritize tasks, manage time effectively, meet deadlines consistently, and handle multiple responsibilities efficiently.
• Punctual, adheres to schedules, and follows company attendance policies.
• Work during special events and occasional off-site outreach events.
• Ensure tasting room and inventory areas are clean, neat and stocked always.
• Perform facility housekeeping, to include tasting room, restrooms, patios, and break areas.
• Ensure that displays of wine products in tasting room are attractive and maintained.
• Utilize cash register and POS system to transact sales and maintain tasting room inventory.
• Fulfillment of order pickups, onsite purchases, and packing shipping orders.
• Assist with wine club shipments and packing.
• Build and organize packing materials.
• Reconcile daily sales and posts transactions. Tasting Room Lead is to close out the POS and print daily reports and reconcile cash and report any discrepancies in daily receipts.
• Maintain physical inventory of merchandise items in the tasting room and all front of house supplies.
• Perform opening and closing checklists.
• Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. • Relevant Wine Industry/Tasting Room/Wine Sales experience.
• Computer skills with various software packages including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and point-of-sale applications preferred.
• Must have strong verbal and written skills with the ability to speak in front of people.
• Ability to establish priorities, work independently and proceed with objectives with minimal supervision.
• Interpersonal awareness, relationship management and influencing skills.
• Must be proactive and have strong organizational skills including exceptional attention to detail and follow-through.
• Database management and high-level guest service skills.
• Wine knowledge and appreciation are necessary for this position
• Willing to work, holidays and weekends as required and extended hours in order to complete the job.
• Previous customer service and retail experience preferred.
• Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
Education and/or Experience:
• Minimum of one to three years related experience.
• High School diploma or AA degree, or a combination of education and experience.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to a general tasting room environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate; however events and background equipment noise can be at a much higher level.
