Job Description:

Aubert Wines is a luxury brand specializing in ‘Grand Cru’ Single Vineyard Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs from Napa Valley and Sonoma County. Our winery is in Calistoga, Napa Valley. We are searching for an experienced, well-rounded candidate to join our production team as a full-time Viticulture and Enology Technician. This role will have vineyard, lab, and cellar duties, with a wide range of day-to-day responsibilities and growth potential within the organization. This role will report to the Assistant Winemaker and Enologist. This position is an important part of our small, dynamic winemaking team and presents an opportunity to become immersed in the full cycle of winemaking at the highest level in our state-of-the-art facilities.

Responsibilities:

Lab
•  Sample collection and analysis for wine and juice components using SPICA enzymatic analyzer, Lyza spectrophotometer, auto titrator, and other laboratory equipment.
•  Supports enologist in maintaining instrument performance and supply inventory for all laboratory equipment.
•  Data entry into winery tracking software, work order record entry and maintenance.
•  Assists in the preparation of and participates in bench and blending trials, staff comparative tastings.

Vineyard
•  Collects and processes grape maturity samples during ripening. Maintains sampling schedule.
•  Assists with vineyard pest, disease, and water stress scouting. Deploys and monitors sticky traps for common vectors. Participates in routine grape consultant meetings in the field.
•  Monitors and records vineyard phenology stages throughout the growing season, collects vine physiology measurements. Performs crop estimate calculations.
•  Maintains irrigation records and assists in monitoring remote irrigation software.
•  Assists with budwood collection, virus flagging, and special projects as needed.
•  Assists with frost protection and other vineyard infrastructure maintenance as needed.

Cellar
•  Assists with various tasks in the cellar including barrel movement and organization, wine transfers, help during bottling and general cellar and equipment upkeep and sanitation throughout the year as needed.
•  During harvest, performs general winery sanitation, sample collection, fruit reception and processing, press loading and operation, and additions.
•  Assists with maintaining cap management schedule and recordkeeping, executes cap management work orders.

Qualifications:

•  Candidates must possess a degree in Viticulture, Enology, Chemistry, Biology, or other related field with 2+ harvests or equivalent professional vineyard and/or winery experience.
•  Working knowledge of vineyard operations, vine physiology, and common pests and diseases.
•  Candidates should have demonstrated knowledge and passion for the world of fine wine with formal tasting experience.
•  Forklift certification a plus. ATV experience a plus.
•  Candidates must have competence with the Microsoft Office suite of programs and Innovint winery software (or comparable winery tracking software).
•  Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail.
•  Ability to work in a fast paced, yet calm and collected team environment.
•  Ability to follow safety regulations, operating procedures, and company policies.
•  Ability to lift 50 lbs.
•  Candidates will be expected to work in a wide range of hot and cold environments and weather conditions, and to spend long hours on their feet in the cellar and vineyards.
•  Candidates must possess a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
•  Willingness to work 6 to 7 days a week during harvest.
