SUMMARY: Under limited supervision, conduct tastings and promote the sale of wine and non-wine products sold in the tasting room. Handle complex purchasing transactions including ship sales, daily cash in and cash out, wine club pickups, Phelps Preferred member sign ups, etc. Have an extensive understanding of Commerce 7 software functions. Have an extensive understanding of Tock software functions, such as guest check ins, entering new reservations, retrieval of guest request/comments and retrieval of internal request/comments. Assist with hospitality special events on/off-premise as needed.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Promotes Phelps Preferred Wine Club.
• Greets all visitors to the Historic Winery.
• Describes wines, winemaking techniques, and winery history; answers visitors’ questions about wines.
• Pours wines for various tasting experiences.
• Handles complex purchasing transactions including ship sales, international sales, & Phelps Preferred membership enrollment, and inventory transfers.
• Conducts opening and closing procedures for the Retail Sales Room.
• Assists with display and stocking of retail items and wines as needed.
• Assists with hospitality special events as needed.
• Acquires and maintains thorough knowledge of winery and its wines.
• Conduct tastings for Phelps Preferred members, trade visitors and VIPs with confidence and poise.
• Exemplifies Cultural Values of Excellence, Growth, Respect and Gratitude.
• Performs other duties as assigned by manager.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Three- to five-years related experience.
• In-depth knowledge of wines and wine production.
• Commitment to excellence and high standards.
• Excellent oral communication skills.
• Excellent presentation skills; ability to effectively present information and respond to questions.
• Passion, enthusiasm, focus, creativity, and a positive outlook.
• Ability to manage priorities and workflow.
• Professional appearance and demeanor.
• Ability to work within a team.
• Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm.
• Excellent customer service skills.
• Bachelor’s degree in related field.
• Demonstrated ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts.
• Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to do the following:
• Walk and stand for prolonged periods.
• Speak before groups of people.
• Understand and respond to a diverse population.
• Lift and carry a case of wine weighing approximately 37 pounds.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
• Work is mainly performed in a tasting room/private room environment, with possibility of outside tastings during nice weather. The individual is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles relative to normal cellar and outside environments.
• Noise levels are usually low to moderate.
