As a Cellar Worker at Bonterra Organic Estates, the largest Regenerative Organic Certified® winery in the United States, you will play an important role in helping us craft award-winning wines at our Hopland facility. In this role, you will perform a variety of cellar operation tasks related to wine production including cleaning and sterilizing wine production equipment, crushing grapes, making/blending wine and bottling, and preparing products for shipment and distribution.

Responsibilities

•  Prepare, use and care for all cellar equipment
•  Operate presses, move hoses and equipment, obtain lab samples, disposing of lees and cleaning equipment
•  Follow standard operating procedures in the performance of all cellar activities to ensure maximum productivity and wine quality objectives are achieved
•  Adhere to all safety policies and procedures, including but not limited to timely and accurate reporting of all work-related injuries, promoting safety awareness to coworkers, advising the lead of any unsafe acts and conditions, wearing required personal protective equipment and following confined space protocol where necessary
•  Accurately complete work orders and other tracking documentation
•  Clean and sanitize cellar, including barrel room, crush and bottling equipment
•  Transfer, rack, pump, clarify, blend wine and juice
•  Make additions to juice or wine in barrels or tanks
•  Use forklift to move barrels and case goods
•  Accurately measure tank volumes and count inventory
•  Perform other duties as directed by the Cellar Leads or Cellar Operations Manager

Must Requirements

•  High School diploma or state-issued equivalency certificate
•  1-2 years related experience required
•  Required to work at heights and in small areas
•  Work extended hours as required during harvest season
•  Valid Driver’s License may be required
•  Skilled in adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing using whole numbers
•  Good communication skills to ensure smooth workflow and fulfillment of assigned work tasks
•  Use of respirator and respirator clearance required
•  May require forklift certification or ability to be forklift certified within first year of employment

Preferred

•  2-5 years or more related experience preferred; less experienced candidates looking to move into this type of work are encouraged to apply
•  Previous forklift experience, a plus
•  Prior experience which required physical labor working in outdoor conditions
•  Bilingual (English/Spanish) communication skills, a plus but not required
•  Ability to multitask
•  Familiar with basic food safety principles

Physical Requirements

Ability to lift and carry 50 to 100 lbs. on a frequent basis; push/pull up to 100 lbs. on a frequent basis; lift and carry and push/pull 50 lbs. on a frequent basis; requires ability to constantly walk and stand; reach upward and outward; frequently bend; occasionally sit, climb, crawl, squat, kneel; requires hand and finger dexterity. Requires PPE such as safety toe footwear and safety glasses, and occasional use of hearing protection and respiratory-related PPE.

Schedule

Requires flexibility to work a varied schedule which includes 4 days/10 hours per day. Shifts include 6:00am to 4:30pm and 12:00pm to 10:30pm.

Requires ability to work extended hours during Harvest which may involve six days/week during peak season.

Compensation

The hourly range for this role is $20 to $22 per hour. Actual rates will vary and are based on a candidate’s relevant education, qualifications, experience, skillset, competencies, internal equity, location and alignment with market data.
