Harvest Cellar Internships, Peachy Canyon

Peachy Canyon Winery

On-Site + Housing Included > Paso Robles, CA

Job Description:

Peachy Canyon is a family owned and operated winery in Paso Robles, CA. For 35 years we have been producing award winning wines from our nearly 100 acres of estate vineyards. We are looking for 3-4 motivated harvest interns to complete our harvest team at Peachy Canyon Winery this fall.

Our paid interns can expect to work between 60 and 80 hours per week during harvest. Regular tasks include cleaning, pump-overs, punch-downs, wine and juice additions & inoculations, fruit sorting, barrel cleaning and filling and more cleaning. During a typical vintage at Peachy Canyon, we receive about 450 tons of hand-picked fruit across 23 different varieties with an emphasis on Zinfandel. On any given day during harvest, we’ll have close to 100 active small lot fermentations to manage along with 10-20 tons of hand-picked fruit to sort, tanks to dig, bins to press and dry wines to barrel down. Thus, a sense of urgency, attention to detail, and decent organizational skills are essential for the successful candidate. We prefer passion over punditry – the intern position is not a desk job and will require a large amount of physical labor, but we believe this is what it takes to craft premium, hand-made wines. No one will force interns to get wet and dirty, but an aversion to doing so may prevent you from enjoying this position - the occasional wine bath followed by a macrobin-hot-tub soak is a rite of passage at Peachy Canyon

In addition to the currency we exchange for your labor, we offer our interns free on-site housing. This lodging consists of fully furnished dormitory style bedrooms & closets, 2 full bathrooms, a full kitchen (featuring 2 refrigerators and freezers) and free laundry facilities on site. Our winery is located about 4 miles from downtown Paso Robles and our local staff are happy to provide rides to accommodate shopping trips, doctors’ visits, banking, and the occasional pilgrimage to one of our fine local pubs. A regular UBER or LYFT will run between $15 and $20 to get home from downtown. We make sure everyone gets one day off every week to catch up on sleep, laundry, and shopping, and to go explore the central coast of California. Beaches, surfing, hiking, San Luis Obispo and Big Sur are a 30-40 minute trip from the winery.

We do require the ability to lift up to 55 lbs, to drag a pump around the cellar, and to work while crouching, stooping, standing and leaning for 8+ hours daily, rain or shine. We prefer some experience and/or education in the field, but we will make exceptions for the correct candidates. You must be allowed to legally work in the United States either through citizenship or through the J-1 visa program. Sorry, no pets are allowed in on-site accommodations.

If you’re interested in joining our team for harvest 2024, please submit a resume or CV.
